Re: Dawn of Reality - new version release
I get a similar feeling.
The crysis shots seem to be brighter, and have more detail and superior foilage (trees, mainly). Furthermore, the crysis world appears to be fashioned out of plastic, or something similar. A possible advantage to the Doom shots is their comparative lack of detail. Neither game presents images that feel real the way photos does, but the detailed Crysis shots seem like failed imitations of reality. The Doom images come alive as a game world.
I'm just trying to come up with a reason why I would/do prefer the Doom shots. The suggested reason might be right.
There are parts of the Crysis shots I wouldn't be surprised to see in the next edition of The SIMS... Also, I think they could look really good in an adventure game like Broken Sword. There's an odd vibe to them. Maybe they're just too bright and pleasant for Doom.

No,you are not.Anyway,I am sure the Crysis mod would be boring in comparison to Doom.I mean seriously,I doubt the atmosphere is even half as good!Davidos wrote:Oddly enough I think the doom shots look better than the crysis ones...

Re: Dawn of Reality - new version release
For some reason, I got this error in one of the houses:
P_StartScript: Unknown Script 87
This happened in Zdoom v 1.5.3 and even with the very latest 1.5.6. This error is also invoked if I use the "kill monsters" command right after the map starts. I tested it happens on HMP and UV difficulty levels.

Ignore this. This happen when you kill Pain Elemental in one of the building. I intended to use some script there, but finally I resigned from this idea. Script 87 does not exist, so don't worry.
Re: Dawn of Reality - new version release
By the way, how many citizens of Bytom city know that you've created this WAD? You see, there is this rumor that Eric Harris (one of the shooters in Columbine massacre) created a map resembling Columbine school before the actual massacre took place, and that he used it to "practice" the massacre.
And now you've created this map, which depicts an entire city. Feeling any murderous-rampage-urges yet?

Bah, that story is a load of bollocks anyway. The main factor was that the shooters wern't 100% right in the head to begin with. Saying that violent videogames cause real violence is just ignorant and makes me facepalm every time.
BTW, your city looks like a really bleak place judging from the photos.

Many small Eastern-European cities look like that. I live in one.CaptainToenail wrote:BTW, your city looks like a really bleak place judging from the photos.
EDIT: Here is Wikipedia entry for Bytom and it doesn't look that bad. And it is really not that small city either:

Though it could be another city named Bytom...

I think you can still download that map, actually.Caleb13 wrote:By the way, how many citizens of Bytom city know that you've created this WAD? Also, regarding people who suddenly go on shootings:

Re: Dawn of Reality - new version release
The supposed map was never actually found and most likely does not exist. Must Columbine always be brought up every time anybody makes a map that looks even vaguely like a real location? Nobody complained about The Unholy Trinity, right? Probably because nobody shot up Trinity College.Captain Ventris wrote:I think you can still download that map, actually.Caleb13 wrote:By the way, how many citizens of Bytom city know that you've created this WAD? To sum up: The Columbine kids didn't make a Doom map out of their school, the Virginia Tech killer didn't play Counter-Strike, and all of this is blown seriously out of proportion and there's no need to continue bringing it up.

Ah, I always forget how useful Snopes is.wildweasel wrote:The supposed map was never actually found

Anyway, this is about as threatening to the people of Bytom as Metro 2033 is to people who use the Moscow Metro. It's a game, it's a neat looking map, it's Doom, it's cool. gg gj glhf ttyl

But it would be shame to break this... this... tradition, wouldn't it?wildweasel wrote:Must Columbine always be brought up every time anybody makes a map that looks even vaguely like a real location?

And thanks for the Unholy Trinity tip, I haven't played this map yet.
