Macabre Map
Macabre Map
I decided to make a level experimenting with two things.
One: How many monsters I can put into a single large room while still having them killable, and while keeping the map enjoyable.
Two:Use of multiple textures to create destroyed doors, bloody messes, etc.
Due to the name of the map one would guess that I focused mostly on the bloody messes. That would be a correct guess.
I'm not really aiming for a realistic approach to the blood here, which is going to be pretty noticeable.
The map isn't the best map in the world, but it's better than anything else I've made.

This is cramped, ugly, illogically easy, and ugly.
There's really not much to say; the map is pretty much unsalvagable, not that anyone would really care.

Keep trying.
Eventually, you'll get things the way you want.

Hey yeah, at least you are learning what you wanted to learn. Considering DoomBuilder is the easiest thing there is to use, you'll probably be making Doom quality maps in no time. And then... well Maybe... after time you can make maps with all the cool new stuff you see in good maps nowadays
-Good to experiment, mapwise

Re: Macabre Map
I like the makeshift look of the blood fountains - it's like you caught the hellspawn in the middle of renovating and setting up the plumbing.
Not a huge fan of the final room - once you're circlestrafing it feels more like a test of patience than a test of skill. Maybe if you can add a catwalk with some ranged support...
I think if you're going to make it mandatory to jump you should try to make more use of the third dimension. Think E1M7, E1M1 deathmatch, or Map15.
One suggestion: set up some teleporters so that in Medium you fight the PEs between the first wave and the final wave, while in Hard they appear behind you just as you enter the final room.
