Re: A.v.M. Aliens vs. Marines "Aliens Online Redux"

Post by Tragos »

The best method that's shown promise involves the motion sensor spawning invisible actors, which fly forward passing through walls. After that triggering an audible sound when another thing/actor (marine or alien) is encountered. I need to find a way to have it deactivate after the actors fly a specific distance. Anyone who has experience with decorate and ACS I sure could use some help! :)

but on that case you need to create something to put the correct position of the enemy for the radar, becuase 1 is the radar sound, that is easy with ambient sound, ovisuly the radar of marines only show white points , no maps....

I know what your saying, I'm not sure how to go about coding that... It be a shame if it was only audible, however that's how it was in the first AVP.

I am fairly certain someone has coded a workable radar thing for ZDoom. I even remember using it on map01, there was a little HUD in the top right corner of the screen with blips. No idea where to find it though, sorry - but it can be done.

Here is a concept for the new HUD I'm working on. Feedback and criticism needed.
*Scrapped in favor of Eriance's design, thanks!*

Spoiler:
Eh.. not a fan of blocky HUD. See if you can make the non important parts transparent.

I'll can always make a transparent version and let the player's decide which version to use? What you see above mimics the HUD from Aliens Online somewhat. I'll try rounding it up a bit and see if that make's it a bit more pleasing. I'm going to redo the entire thing using vectors when I have the chance, what you see above is only a mock up.

It looks okay, but I too am not a fan of blocky HUDs. I don't see why there needs to be such a huge square for the ammo.

Look ok, but the blocky HUD looks rather dated. Something that doesn't block a giant section of the screen would probably be better. Maybe like the Aliens vs Predator 2 or AvP 2010 HD with simple transparent elements.

Comments duly noted.

I agree, I'll instead work on a more simplistic HUD using vector objects.
