[Request] "XS" pc game resources?
I've recently found my OLD pc game, Tigershark, and on the back of the manual was an add for a game called "XS" (an equally old game). This is the first game that i've seen having a on-gun ammo counter despite being sprite based weapons. Here's a video:

Does anyone have this game, or know where I can get it's resources for reference material? I'm rather curious on how this game actually played.

Well, I can't see the page from work, but this page sounds like they have the demo. I curse stupid hard-to-search names...

EDIT: Didn't Ceeb or someone have a comment here about it being abandonware? I'd be curious to find out.

He didn't say whether it was abandonware or not. But remember, we don't do abandonware here. Unfortunately any posts naming or linking such sites will receive the same treatment.Caligari_87 wrote:Didn't Ceeb or someone have a comment here about it being abandonware? I'd be curious to find out.
edit: if you want more details on what I mean, please don't use this thread. You can contact the moderators on the IRC channel or via PM.

Haha, I got censored.
Re: [Request] "XS" pc game resources?
Oh dear, not this again! You should've just edited it out instead of making posts vanish and screwing up the space-sanity continuum of the forums. Now we (the common user) have no record at all of what was actually said. Though we're lucky enough to have a reliable third-party source (Cali) in this case, and I don't currently doubt the integrity of any of the mods here, it's still a very underhanded tactic that makes this Xaser quite nervous.
Yes, I'm being alarmist. But I really don't agree with post deletions and honestly think there should be some sort of a policy against it except in very special circumstances (obvious spambots or excruciatingly severe shitposts, at least). It's a slippery slope, this one is.

Re: [Request] "XS" pc game resources?
Normally I'd just edit out the part in question, but in this case if I'd done that there would practically be nothing left. So I didn't see the point.
I suppose I could have left the edited post behind, and all you would have known was that there was a post. I have to say, I do consider warez related offenses to be "special circumstances", and moving the post to the garbage bin is the quickest way to deal with the problem.
I was hoping I could avoid derailing this thread with moderation related discussion.

Well, if you can ever count on someone to cause chaos...
But yeah, an edit still would've been friendlier. Though editing out an entire post with nothing but a moderator message is practically the same in plenty of cases, at least it's some sort of indication that there was something there (eliminating the confusion factor if nothing else). And if the content was, indeed, practically nothing but a link, then the removal is justified.
Warez offenses are serious indeed, but the post-nuke is still a bit overboard if no traces are left. It makes some wary when things vanish without any of those.
Now, to say something actually on-topic: I really love the chaingun in that video, I must say. Wonder if it's somehow available in a shareware/demo, if there's around...

Another reason to edit posts before deleting is to prevent moderator ping-pong, that is, someone thinking that the forum software itself screwed up and ate the post (it happens occasionally!) and wind up attempting to repost the same thing multiple times in a row, which would result in a completely unnecessary warning.

Alright guys, enough of this. Take it to another thread if you want to continue discussing it.

Cali is the only other person to actually try to post constructively, and I got a warning for what I thought was a benign gesture. What exactly do you want this thread to do?wildweasel wrote:Alright guys, enough of this. Take it to another thread if you want to continue discussing it.

EDIT: Ack, Cali posted this download already....
Here is the 7.5 MB game demo from download.com: http://download.cnet.com/XS-demo/3000-7 ... 05528.html

Ah sweet. Most thanks.
Always wanted to see what this game was like since the 90s.
Re: [Request] "XS" pc game resources?
The only way I know of to rip resources from this game is either hacking the data files or taking screencaps. Unfortunately, any screens taken would be obscured by the ginormous hud.

Re: [Request] "XS" pc game resources?
Just so we're clear:

No links, no torrents, no instructions to get to it, nothing warez related. I really don't see what warranted a post deletion and warning. That was overkill IMO, and it doesn't bode well with me.From my memory, what Ceeb wrote wrote:Is it abandonware? There's tons of sites that have stuff like that hanging around.
Re: [Request] "XS" pc game resources?
Makes me wonder if it was even confirmed whether this was legal abandonware (i.e. the developer/publisher have officially said it is okay to download the full game, as is the case with games like GTA and Tyrian), or illegal abandonware.
