I am using Timidity with EAWPats but there's a handful of tracks where I force use of FMod with SNDINFO's $mididevice command.

I prefer the "original" sound of the OPL emulator - that is, when I'm not playing the game with -nomusic to just listen to my own music instead.

So in my head, appear idea. What about to add last official patches v 4.11 released by Advanced Gravis Computer Technology Ltd.
To ZDoom wiki http://zdoom.org/wiki/Using_custom_MIDI_instruments ?
http://heretics-hexens.ucoz.com/GUS411.ZIP
And link looks like http://www.zdoom.org/files/GUS411.ZIP
I think this is true, keep the official version.

I just use the synth for my sound card. It's the sound I'm used to, heh.

This. IMO it sounds really nice, too.

I use a SoundFont called SGM v2, which weighs in at 236 MB. An example of it (contains a megaupload link for download): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UwhEyxFrns

There are ways to convert SF2 to a GUS patch set if needed (Timidity++ doesn't need it converted). However, I believe GUS patches are more limited and won't achieve the full quality of the original soundfont.

XG, that takes me back. I could never get it to work on XP though. For Doom1 I use the SNES SPCs. Everything else I soundfonts through Timidity.

I'd like to try that. How do I use soundfonts with Timidity++? Each time I try I just get errors.

I use a timidity.cfg which basically has:

Code: Select all

dir /absolute/path/to/soundfont
soundfont "SGM-V2.01.sf2"

Thanks.

I'll stick with EAWPats though. Of all the sound fonts and patch sets I tried it produces by far the best output in my opinion.

I myself use a soundfont known as Crisis GM. It, however, weighs at a GB.

I used to use the same soundfont as Chris, but since I didn't like the sound of it, I got back to eawpats.

Damn! I could have used that 'dir' line to save time with all my other soundfonts.
