The WIP Thread
Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
Lighting always looks bland in OpenGL without the use of dynamic lighting.
Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
Yeah... try randomly adding blobs of subtractive lights in the sky so that the detail would look more gritty...
Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
WTH are you talking about?
Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
I could be wrong, but I think he's talking about using dynamic lightning to make the lighting in OpenGL not look so bland.

Those are very good screen shots StarScream. They're somewhere between pant changing, and head exploding quality.

Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
That looks definitely cool but I'd be more happy if you'd finish your Stronghold map

Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
You can create subtle shadows if you randomly scatter subtractive lights (all with varying sizes and intensity... but they can't be too dark; they have to be really, really subtle). I take it you haven't used subtractive lights before.Kristus wrote:WTH are you talking about?
If you use normal dynamic lights (the bright ones), you have to create physical light sources otherwise the illumination won't make sense.

Right now I'm working on crouching sprites for the weapon-marine skins. Just started the pistol...

Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
I was debating whether to use Dynamic Lights or Static Lighting, but I prefer to use Static as it has more freedom in creating light in various different shapes. I could add in Dynamic Lighting as well, never really used Dynamic lights with alot of Static Lighting. I guess I should try it out then. Thanks for the tipKristus wrote:Lighting always looks bland in OpenGL without the use of dynamic lighting.

Im working on it, I am just doing some other stuff inbetweenTormentor667 wrote:That looks definitely cool but I'd be more happy if you'd finish your Stronghold map

Just finished my Boom map. It should be up in the archives in some days.

Re: WHAT THE HELL are you working on (WIP THREAD not gossip)
Dunno if you could really call it "work" as it's still only in planning phase, but here goes: Doom Fortress.
I was quite jarred that no more than two people have had this idea before me (to Google's knowledge), but AOW has shown us that even Skulltag is flexible enough to go well beyond TF in complexity. I'm not talking about a half-arsed TF2 conversion, either, but a full-on Team Fortress mod made exclusively for Doom, with its own gameplay and subtleties.
(And c'mon, 2fort in Doom would be nine kinds of awesome)

OK, then I misunderstood you entirely. The way you worded that it sounded (to me anyway) like you were being sarcastic. I guess my reading comprehension skillz weren't as mad as I had thought.Nash wrote:You can create subtle shadows if you randomly scatter subtractive lights (all with varying sizes and intensity... but they can't be too dark; they have to be really, really subtle). I've not used subtractive lights. I've only done stuff with dynamic lights with Legacy and I never thought about exploring that possibility (so I can't say whether it will work in there or not). Though I see how that could have come in useful.

Subtractive lights are pretty badass. Need a location that must be in perfect darkness? There's your answer!
