Hey, I used to map for Red Faction back when I was 12. Maybe I could make a map with a teal background, to help with sprite ripping?

That might be quite useful.

Seeing as how you have mapped for red Faction, do you know of any way of extracting the models and saving them in a format that would be loadable by a modeling program such as MilkShape or GMax so that they could then be converted to MD3s for GZdoom? I'm particularly interested in map objects and things that could be used as map objects like the armoured vehicles etc.

I never did much model editing, but I believe this can help you:

You can export the models and the textures, but I have no idea what format they would be in.

Thanks but I have been able to extract the resources before. I can't find a way of loading the format of models that the game uses into any model editing tools though. I have found reference to an exporter (so that a modelling program could make models and export them in the Red Faction format) but no an importer. :(

Hmmm..

Maybe directly changing the file extension? Maybe I could ask around on the L4Y Forums, or look around a bit. I'm sure there's a way.

Sorry for the double post.

Here's the screengrab map. The colors aren't completely pure, since all I had to work with were the default textures. Sorry it took so long, had to get RED reconfigured and such.

Bumpness...

I've managed to hard rip the Fusion Missile Launcher frames. Alas, the weapon takes up the entire screen vertically when reloading, and ZDoom doesn't have a fixed screen size I should resize the images into. wildweasel told be somethin' about resizing the image to 480 pixels wide, and then vertically resize it to 80% without maintaining aspect ratio. Will this work or not?

Oh, and prepare for a quite long reloating time. The entire set consists around 84 frames, so it'd be wise to reprogram the weapon, like it shoots heat-seeking torpedos, or 6 torpedos in a volley not just one etc.

Hmmm...

If you hijacked the weapon actor's flash state, you could have the plexi portion be a seperate image and drawn in a different state, but have it run a script that checks player health or an inventory item representing durability, and emulate the damage over time effect.

What about having Doom Guy's hands holding the weapons?

First I should resize the weapon itself to fit in any resolution for ZDoom or GZDoom. Without that, there's no point adding Doomguy's hands yet. Once I get the method how to solve the resolution problem, adding Doomguy's hands will be a small-time.

Someone has ripped and polished a bunch of Red Faction weapon sprites for the AMC TC duke mod, you can always rip them from there if you want them. I had them ripped on my HD that crashed, won't bother to do it again unless i really need it now. XWE can open the duke grp files. But they are very clean and fit doom very well, palette doesn't convert that well but you can always work around that.

at 39secs
Theres also some sort of assaultrifle from redfaction too i think (not sure since i havn't played redfaction) [EDIT]http://i.imgur.com/fFhJLyA.jpg?1 <- that one.

[EDIT2] Oh, I found the railgun rips i did and my widescreen and pulse animation I did on it. The stuff for the widescreen thingy isn't all that impressive but it sort of works...

They look very neat, you did a great job indeed!

Can you do the same with the Fusion Missiles Launcher? I have all 84 frames, but I still don't have a clue what size should I give them before taking the background away, since it takes up the whole screen vertically.

Let me stress once again that I didn't do the cleanup of the sprite, I took the work that someone else did for the AMC TC and just made it widescreen friendly, as well as added a pulsating light animation for the idle state.
I actually managed to find the author of the sprites:

Credits goes to Geoffrey for the cleanup!
Spoiler: cool gif of the process he did :)

I know, I don't have any problems with the clean-up. I have problems with the hard rips' size before I'd start the clean-up, because the Fusion Missiles Launcher takes up the whole screen vertically. Try as you might, you'll NEVER fit it into a 320×200 rectangle into the bottom right corner :( :?
