Bitman Zeta - It's not NESDoom but it's the next best thing

Projects that have specifically been abandoned or considered "dead" get moved here, so people will quit bumping them. If your project has wound up here and it should not be, contact a moderator to have it moved back to the land of the living.

God damn, does everybody not realize that there's only 5 levels planned? There's no way in hell that the need for testers is that big. :?

I'm basically looking for people to tell me how I screwed up and how to fix it. I've currently got a pretty good handle on the whole making stuff thing.

Well, technically, five levels plus five bonus levels.

Anywho, progress report! I'm nearly done with level 2. I just need to add more detail to the boss fight, improve some texturing, and maybe replace a room. Once level 2's done, I'll scope out some sidekicks.

I'll throw my hand into the pile and say, not only have you got the "consoleness" (awesome word BTW) down, but most importantly, it looks fun to play, very non-serious old skool Doom (and some of the funnest maps out there are done in that fashion).

Props beth to thou.

I dunno... That current screenshot is really unimpressive compared to the last few shots. Maybe it's just to expansive to work in a bitmap style. It could also be underdetailed... it's just some platforms in a big room.

I agree with Scuba to an extant. I think the platforms are fine but I think it's the lack of detail on the outer walls that is the problem. There's no variation, it's just the same green metal texture. Perhaps you could break up the room by adding pillars, pipes, drains and other details? I mean, it looks like the player is in the middle of a sewer or sewage treatment facility, so it should look like one.

Yeah, I still need to add a good deal of detail to the backgrounds. I have some ideas as to how, I just need to get around to it.

The city level(s) could probably use some Technos-style background work - windows that only exist to show off merchandise, TV's advertising other games/WADs you made, or just showing off your company logo. Cryptic billboards help, too.

Decals - posters, bullet holes, cracks in walls exposing pipes...

Why not? It's coming fairly obvious that my best won't necessarily be enough for this. That plus my being too fussy to let more talented people join in + my sewer-level reputation with the engine developers (when your first projects are met with "SEEK HELP" it's never a good sign) means I'll probably only be able to produce substandard work (see: the latest screenshot) over an obnoxiously long period. I want this to be GOOD, but I'm doubtful as to whether my good is good enough.

Yeah, morale isn't exactly high lately. Sorry for the bitching. To give you something to look at, here's a alternate jumping puzzle room I dropped in place of the current one. It's a little more technically impressive (3D floors, whee) but is shorter and annoying for different reasons. They're both a pain in the dick but everyone wants jumping puzzles despite the fact they suck in a FPS whether it uses a gimmick artstyle or not so I'm fucked either way I suppose! Hooray desperation to please everyone!

I say just let the project run rampant on its own and disregard any sort of suggestions you may receive from it. It's your game. Don't let anyone else fuck with it.
