[WIP] Dead Rain (follow-up to Cold as Hell)

Projects that have specifically been abandoned or considered "dead" get moved here, so people will quit bumping them. If your project has wound up here and it should not be, contact a moderator to have it moved back to the land of the living.

[WIP] Dead Rain (follow-up to Cold as Hell)

Post by JonayaRiley »

Last year I finished work on the revised version of Cold as Hell, and at the time I wasn't sure what I was going to do with a sequel, if anything at all. I've been working occasionally on a project designed to continue the storyline of CaH. At this point, the details are going to be sketchy due to the incomplete nature of the project, but I'll post a little bit of info.

At this time the release date is a very firm "when it's done." Currently I'm not looking for any help with the project, but I will post here if that changes.

General info:

This is a semi-sequel to Cold as Hell. It's set in a very different time and place than CaH, but references events from that mod, and essentially takes place in the same universe. Unlike CaH, Dead Rain will not be using any Doom/Doom 2 resources, so an IWAD from one of those games likely won't be needed.

Technically speaking, the mod will include high-res textures, sprites, and other graphics. It will use the latest version of WeatherFX for precipitation, and FireFX for flame effects. I'm also working on a fairly robust computer interface system to use for in-game computers, as well as the player's PDA system.

So, you're using 3D models!? Excellent. I hadn't realized ones of such quality were compatible in ZDoom.

Looks very intruiging, and the ambition is making me want this to work out for you :) (Largely because CaH was also ambitious, and when it all worked, awesome)

Looks and sounds superb. :)
Hope everything works out.

When you get closer to completion, I'd be happy to do a trailer for it. :) (I enjoyed making Cold as Hell's, after all)

Doesn't look anything like Doom - in fact, the pic with the person and the gun has a TF2 feeling to it. Great job. :P

Looks good. However, I think that's pre-rendered sprites as opposed to actual polygonal models...

Makes sense if you think about it. Its easier to support a hidef sprite off of a good model in gzdoom than a real hi-poly model. Lots of hi poly models will start to chug the renderer while the same number of models, rendered as hidef sprites will not have the same impact.
