I agree. The methods may be poor but the point looks valid. Especially from the look of the thread before he came.

Re: VAPORWARE: Eternity map pack announcement!
Well, at least I have judged him correctly. Not a single decent post came from him. I would have responded properly if I had even had the smallest hint that he might be a useful contributor.
So yeah, as long as Eternity is implementing good features but all projects for it appear to get eternally stalled into oblivion (Mordeth and Millennium anyone?) I don't think anybody can complain if one makes jokes of the apt name of the port, don't you think?

Heh. There was no problem at all here until the troll guy showed up. I'm pretty convinced he's a fake and is probably the property of someone who's posted in this very thread. But that's besides the point. Other than his flamebaiting, there's not even any real port-bashing/favoritism going on right now, so either side getting defensive makes no sense at all.
@Essel: Graf is obviously jesting about the name, but otherwise I only see one user (who has since retracted his statements) who has actually spoken down about EE. There is no ZDoom Krew Numbah-One here, and no Eternity-shitting (I see some massive praising, actually) on a forum-wide basis. Saying the entire forum is "grossly hypocritical" is a pretty big overstatement. 1 person != the entire forum, I'd imagine.
I'm convinced the troll's GZDoom comment was worded specifically to induce problems, and if it wasn't for his flamebaiting, there wouldn't have been any reason to try n' defend GZDoom in the first place. Someone created this user simply to spark a war. That is all.

LOL Drama!
Checking the first few pages I count:
10 Very positive comments
2 slightly negative comments
a few digs at the names Eternity and Vaporware (which, with names like that, has to be fair game - no? Surely the project name is already making the same joke?)
People thinking the project was important enough to move so that it didn't get lost
A number of comments that are either not expressing a strong opinion about the project one way or another, or are not directly about the project
Then the shitstorm started.
That doesn't sound particularly hypocritical to me. It sounds like a pretty positive response to an impressive looking project with great potential.
As I said, a new user came in and made specific, directed comments indicative of an experienced user - who knew what they were doing - and, from the very start, used their posts for one purpose only. Not only that, they hid behind a name that we wouldn't recognise.

I'm rather dissappointed myself, but only because we had people feeding AND backing up the troll. If you don't like this community you can always fuck right off.

Ehh. I guess in my mind I was combining the couple of negative comments and "lol y cant zdoom do this" with similar situations that I've seen here in the past (re: Doom64 EX, etc.) Sorry dudes, and thanks again for the praise.

Re: VAPORWARE: Eternity map pack announcement!
Yeah, you're getting confused. I meant it sincerely when I said I'll download EE just to play this map pack when it's done. I don't have EE installed currently because there's no interesting EE-exclusive WAD I'd want to play right now... hence, I'm eager to play Vaporware when it's done.

Nah, I understood what those comments meant, and I'm glad to hear it.
Really, thanks. It was just a few comments in here (not yours) combined with some past threads and the response to professional troll suited up for business that led me to overreact, and now I feel rather silly about it.

Re: VAPORWARE: Eternity map pack announcement!
Hehe, good to see we're all here and things are back to normal. And don't feel silly, Essel -- we were all kinda tricked into it, in a manner of speaking. I'm all for the "blame the troll and move on from here" route.

By the way, I forget who said new monsters are mandatory but I think that's very disputable: new monsters can be a crutch for me if they are not balanced out to the kind of monsters a player should be fighting at this point. If there are monsters that are throwing one fireball for example, does there need to be a monster nearby with similar health throwing FIVE fireballs? And yet it sometimes feels that people are inclined to include monsters simply because they look cool, then forget to tone their attacks to match the monsters they surround. I'm not against adding new monsters, but... yano? There's a theme to work with and a balance to think about.
If I use new monsters in a map for example, I might decide to go with ALL custom monsters just so that they match a particular theme or difficulty. OR I will have fun playing with the stats, see how things work out, maybe resize a monster and make him bigger, stuff like that. Sometimes, it's too much to think about when there is already a pretty nice selection of monsters to choose from that are stock.
Re: VAPORWARE: Eternity map pack announcement!
Erm, me? I was talking from an enthusiastic modder's point of view, who wants new monsters because they feel it's power to add new objects everywhere. But still, I prefer having new monsters. They make the megawad less dull, more surprising.DoomRater wrote: By the way, I forget who said new monsters are mandatory

Very nice screenshots, this project sure is a good reason to give Eternity a serious try :)

Re: VAPORWARE: Eternity map pack announcement!
I don't feel like new monsters are a requirement at all, but I certainly don't mind them if they're well-balanced and they look good.
