Re: ScoreDoom 2.5 Final Release

Yea. All the scores got a reset. So now I have to redo Knee Deep In the Dead Episode all over again. But this time, I will record it. All 9 stages. Show you my scores and how I got it. I did a little run to test the new enemies whereabouts and I am quite impressed. Apparently no BFG on Map02 Nuclear Plant. :(

Re: ScoreDoom 2.5 Final Release (*addonpack hotfix*)

Post by BilboHicks »

Sh*t guys. I'm really sorry. I should of posted here before that the ADDONPACK needed a critical hotfix to stop spawn-camping, since the imp-trites which are spawned from the Hell Rose didn't have their COUNTKILL flag cleared and would score points.

The reason the hi score server went down temporarily, was because I just uploaded the hotfixed version of the addonpack which you will need to post hi scores now. I did wipe the hi scores one last time for addonpack wads, due to the above problem (probably being too anal about this I know, but want to keep things absolutely fair).

The good news is, the current version of the ADDONPACK has been thoroughly tested by me and 2 others and it *is* the last version, so scores *will* remain from now on. Believe me, I'm absolutely fed up with having to wipe hi scores (and understandably anger players), redo all the hashcodes (ugh), and re-upload.

Additionally:
Large backpacks now increase holding capacity like normal backpacks.
The PyroDemon, ArchonofHell, Bruiser Demon, Thor & HellRose have been made less punishing/frustrating.
A few monsters would only occasionally drop certain items, fixed.

grab hotfixed addonpack from usual: http://scoredoom.com

Also, I uploaded the hi score server files 'as is' for people wanting to run their own servers.

Alright. Download it and working fine for me. My scores are back on and I am back on top on Knee Deep in the Dead. :D

Anybody know DragonsBrethern? I respect him/her for setting nice scores. Esp that Military Base score. Took a reset to beat that score.

Oh and videos of Knee Deep in the Dead scores will be uploaded today. Enjoy them... :D

PS: I do love that Burst Chaingun and RailGun Plasma.

Cool man. Cheers for the videos!
Yeah Dragonsbrethren is also a bit of an accomplished rom hacker if I'm not mistaken
http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/

The Green Herring also is another guy to beat, he's a reason I initially added hardcore mode and lowered chain bonus amounts, ...ironically, since I couldn't beat his score on E1M1 w.o. saving every few seconds to keep my chain bonuses going. Turns out (allegedly) he didn't save once :P

EDIT: Also did a fix on the high score server so that profile images with usernames with certain alphanumerics like '.' would display. Like 'Mr. Coma' ;-)

Thanks Bro BilboHicks. So I guess that 1000 points from killing that Klesk looking thing is gone? Where it drops some ball and you have do a certain amount of damage.
This Green Herring character seems cool and great ScoreDoomer. Im curious, I might play Hell Revealed II wad with ScoreDoom. See how brutal it is for lulz.

PS:Love the announcer guy. Esp when he says "Boned!" I keep thinking he saying OWNED.

Yes, anything which gets summoned from other creatures, like that ball doesnt score now. If you chainsaw the klesk, the ball will probably not appear, which means you can lose out on a lot of points. So now for any map, the amount of points possible remains consistent, rather than dependent on how lucky or unlucky a player is with the amount of monsters summoned/resurrected/spawned etc...

I just found an oversight. If you use the -record command line parameter and have ScoreDoom set to play in hardcore mode, the highscore displayed will be the normal mode score. The game itself is still in hardcore mode though, it's displayed on the status bar, and you can't save. The status bar will correctly display the hardcore mode score if you die and restart.

Edit: If you play the demo back, the score gets recorded as a normal mode score on the server:

Thanks for the info. I have never played about with demos, so that's probably why I missed it. I wont rule out a patch for this, if this turns out to be a quick-fix and I find the time and enthusiasm to do it. It sux if you want to record hardcore demos, but I'm glad that it isnt the other way round, since that would allow for cheating (saving regular scores as hardcore on the server).

There are a few more issues to be aware of...
1. althud does not work with scoredoom.
2. Going into 3rd person/chase cam mode will disable online hi scoring. Not necessarily bad, but you should either unbind the key or bind to a key somewhere else on the keyboard, since I've accidently hit it and gone WTF myself??
3. Even if you havent started a game yet, and just started up, if you go into scoredoom options, and change the online scoring mode (off, regular, hardcore), you will need to restart to play in that mode (except offline).

Yeah, I don't normally record demos, otherwise I probably would've noticed this sooner.

I'm currently at map 13 of Hell Revealed with the addon pack. (I personally like fighting the vast different monster species for the challenge)

Speaking of Hell Revealed, I personally recommend regular mode over hardcore because saving anywhere pretty much became a necessity for me after dying so many times in map 11 on hardcore.

I can imagine HR being pretty insane. Have to play through that myself. The first map on HR2 was crazy enough for me.

If you are having problems accessing the site. Use http://scoredoom.com (w.o. the 'www.') But the links to the pages have www.scoredoom.com hardcoded in them (gah). Need to contact my host when I get some time. Plan to have it sorted out by the weekend.

I took a look at the demo -record problem, and it looks like an easy fix. If it is I will probably try and release a patch this weekend. Also will probably do an addonpack patch with it (lol), to fix a shadowbeast attack. It releases like 4->6 green wraiths which are indestructible, and suck a ton of health away, unless you run away and they run out of animation states chasing you! I thought I had fixed this a couple pf patches ago. I will make the wraiths shootable, think its more fun this way. Good news is that this will *not* effect current hi scores.

Ah, cool, I was going to comment on the Shadowbeast. I ran into them on Map04 of Memento Mori and have been struggling with it as a result. The first one can be killed pretty easily by releasing it from its closet and just taking potshots at it from outside the building where the wraiths can't follow you. You can just run from the second one, grab the red key, and close the door behind you to stop the wraiths from following. I have no doubt I can get through the map without the fix, I keep dying after these guys, but it will be welcomed if they pop up in other maps in less exploitable positions.

I personally didn't find the shadow beasts all that annoying whenever I had the railgun, as I found that they only disappear when I either kept hammering away at them with the super shotgun or chaingun.

@ Dragonsbrethren: Oddly, I recorded a demo when I was in hardcore mode, and it saved to the hardcore table (made sure I could find a wad I could set a hi score on ;-) ). But when I played the demo back it did record to the regular table.
You mentioned even recording a demo will go to to regular. But I couldn't reproduce this. I added a fix which should fix this all, but was wondering if you have any more info on how to reproduce the problem with -record?
Also found a bug with offline hi scoring, which is fixed :)
