differant sized buildings in zdoom

Post by Unholypimpin »

is there any way to make differant sized buildings outdoors without that glich that makes you make them look the same height?

perhaps i should reword this... when you make structures with differant ceiling heights doombuilder flags the structure with missing high textures and filling them makes the buildings look the same height, and not filling them gives you that ugly missing texture look like a blurry invisable wall.

is there any way to make that wall dissapear? and just show the higher sectors ceiling without so the 2 sectors look independant, rather than connected by a blurry line? or just a pillar?

i know in gzdoom you can just make a room without a ceiling and just put a 3d floor there instead, but for zdoom you cant have 3d floors...
is there any way around this issue?

I don't entirely understand what you mean, but through creative use of bridge things and transfer heights, you can make very convincing 3D floors in basic ZDoom.

like buildings outside you can see taller buildings behind smaller ones but in doom the editor forces all small ceilings to clip with taller ones. so in the end both buildings look the same height even if one is twice the size as the other. basically make a small room inside of a big and when your done, the smaller rooms ceiling clips to the taller one rather staying as is resulting in the smaller room looking like a pillar rather than a serparate room.

ill show you a screenshot
Spoiler:
both sectors ceilings are lower than the parent sectors which is 350...one is 70 other is 180, first screenshot is both of them when you play by the rules of the editor

the 2nd screenshot is when you disobey and dont put high textures, hoping that your ceilings will look small and show larger sectors behind it..

is there a way to fix that? or a way around it to produce a similar effect of differant ceiling heights?

Mmm... This would be easy as pie in GZDoom. But yeah, your best bet to do this, that I know of, is transfer heights and bridge things.

Anyway, it's "transfer", not "trancfer"

Make the shape of the bridge you want and make sure your control sector for Transfer Heights and bridge thing placement is correct. There's no reason why it shouldn't work.

very nice however, back to the building thing. when i make a enterance like a the hole in the sector produces that ugly parent child ceiling clip problem, plus the enterance from the outside has a wall there that stops you from looking inside and i cant get rid of it, and i tryed translucent line too

Can you upload your WAD? I can't help with this just by reading.

well its for my doom2 remake and i wanted a 3d ceiling for a outside base but i guess thats too tall a order for me(gotta stick to what im good at)

but if you want a version then sure(if you do then dont look at my new secret level :D )

im still struggling with this 3d height thing because normally i only use for water effects im getting alot of unwanted sideeffects this way

the wad isnt small its 3.5mb when zipped =[ and my current upload of the file doesnt have the outside base made
