Agreed. So agreed. People seem to equate "joke" with "minimal effort piece of shit that can be churned out in under 5 minutes to parody n00b mapping" or whatever. A genuine, good joke should be made with just as much care, attention and quality as any other map.

unfortunately, do-tims does not fall into the 'minimal effort' category. It took years to develop it and even to betatest it. I assume graf never played past map01, because there's some impressive ACS and architecture in it. (not to mention gameplay especially coop with friends, unless GRAF HAS NO FRIENDS)

I remember a jokewad that I don't remember it's name, it had a Buttsecks device. It made me have fun.

That was undoubtedly one of Wills' wads. I *think* it's "It Only Gets Worse" (iogw.wad) but I could always be wrong. ;P

Anyhow, jokewad creation really is (when done "right") a lot less effortless as some people may seem. It's easy as hell to come up with a garbage map with bad everything and say "hey look joke haha" but anyone can do that. Proper use of actual humor and ridiculously zany situations are where it's at.

I guess most jokewads fall somewhere between the two extremes (badmaps vs. scripted joke humor), and some people don't care for them at all, but oddly enough, I do believe there is such a thing as a "quality jokewad." This is why do-tims is popular and Gamarra wads aren't. ;P

Mock 2 is a classic, fun and funny (in a few places, mind). Dotims is... well, meh, I'm afraid. The maps seem more oriented around driving you insane than actually being fun. CIF1 and CIF2 are in the same calibre as Dotims (the latter much more so), but CIF3 I can't resist coming back to. Even if some of the maps do drive me absolutely stark ballistic (FLOATING FUCKING STATIONS). The bosses are fun and challenging if you know what you're doing and can summon enough firepower to take them down easier. To be quite frank, though, I can't really call CIF3 a jokeWAD. More a "satirical" "serious" mod.

Wills' jokeWADs are a mixed bag, I think. It Only Gets Worse is probably his best but I also find myself having fun with TARDGold. Untitled isn't too bad, either. Nucking Futs isn't fun in a lot of places, I'm afraid. The rest of his mods I haven't really played too thoroughly.

I remember once playing a fairly obscure jokeWAD called "The Mistake". It was fun for about the first 10 levels, then it got boring, stupid and dull, so I just skipped the rest of the maps. Then I deleted it from my harddrive after encountering that horrible face (the one that Cutman seems obsessed with) in MAP29 and didn't sleep for three days. Yeah... I'm squeamish.

EDIT: I voted no jokewad. I have enjoyed playing both Massmouth 1 and 2 (along with the Christmas Edition), but that was only because I wanted to find out why it was mentioned in the "Ten Years of Doom" celebration. I do not go looking for jokewads - I have an unusual sense of humour as it is in real life!

Heh. I meant moreso the quality of it....if that makes sense. I don't mean create a wad that has the same jokes, otherwise, it wouldn't be that good.
