Archvile jump differences
Archvile jump differences
What is he talking about? I can't seem to reproduce the "attraction" behavior with the current SVN or even the latest official release.

Me neither. I've just spent quite some time being thrown around by an Archie and I only ever got thrown away from him. Also, I find it hard to take someone seriously who makes comments like "this is bullshit, what the fuck was Heit thinking". Especially as he does so on YT and doesn't think about posting a sensible bug report instead despite the fact that he says "this needs fixing". What's Randy supposed to do - trawl through the Internet just in case someone somewhere makes a comment about Zdoom?Coon wrote:What is he talking about? Re: Archvile jump differences
I think he should ignore this garbage. However, I wonder if that behavior actually occurred at some point during the development of an ancient version he might have used to record the video or if he's totally talking out of his ass and intentionally doing something to jump in the opposite direction.
Re: Archvile jump differences
It could easily have been a bug at some point but I don't remember it and it certainly seems to be gone now.
Re: Archvile jump differences
I think the author of the video created it for no more purpose than to flame Randy. What's strange, though, is that it was only posted 3 days ago, and that gives really no clue as to what version of ZDoom he was using. It's also possible that the poster simply reposted an old video - which also begs the question, where was the original, and when was it posted?
Needless to say, irrelevant. Whatever bug that was is long gone now, it has no bearing today, and to be quite honest, I really don't give a shit anyway.

*shrugs* -- seems like a fake to me. Or otherwise certainly not something serious. Not worth worrying about either way. Sentence fragments.

Re: Archvile jump differences
He has explain that bug happens on ZDoom 2.2.0, 2.3.0 fixed the direction of "jumping" but not the height of "jumping"...(Maybe the height problem is un-fixable or something...)SoulPriestess wrote:I think the author of the video created it for no more purpose than to flame Randy. I have no idea why he don't want to do a proper bug report and just blame/slap Randy with a video...? I can't resist thought he just a *insert some bad words here* :'(
Re: Archvile jump differences
I'm always surprised how many people shy away from SVN builds because they feel like its a less stable than an actual release. (5 minutes on the changelog would reveal otherwise). For all the effort that was put into making that video, the author could have just as easily submitted a bug report.

Probably this one:
Code: Select all
April 14, 2008 (Changes by Graf Zahl)
- Fixed: A_VileAttack positioned the fire on the wrong side of the target.
Re: Archvile jump differences
Again, the "WTF was Heit thinking" statement comes to mind. The jump direction problem is clearly an error (that has been fixed for 11 months) yet the above statement from the video author clearly implies that he thinks Randy is on some kind of mission to alter elements of Zdoom for some personal agenda or something.
How much easier would it have been to make a proper bug report, get the correct answer (or get the bug fixed had it still been in place) and have the additional benefit of not be spreading misleading BS via YT?

Not much easier for him if we really are talking about someone who couldn't bring himself to update his ZDoom installation in 11 months.Enjay wrote:How much easier would it have been to make a proper bug report, get the correct answer (or get the bug fixed had it still been in place) and have the additional benefit of not be spreading misleading BS via YT?

I was sent a PM on youtube and said he should do a bug report but he didn't response.Coon wrote:Not much easier for him if we really are talking about someone who couldn't bring himself to update his ZDoom installation in 11 months.Enjay wrote:How much easier would it have been to make a proper bug report, get the correct answer (or get the bug fixed had it still been in place) and have the additional benefit of not be spreading misleading BS via YT?
Maybe he didn't care if or not fix the bug and just want to blame the port authors with video... *sigh*
