ZDoom with D!Zone

Post by Aliens_Eat_Dirt »

Hey, is there anyway to get Zdoom working with D!Zone? For those of you who may not know, D!Zone is a collectors edition of Doom and Doom II Pwads and such. I just can't seem to figure out how to get the two programs running together. I could probably get ZDoom working with one level, but what about a whole string of levels?

Anybody here got any good ideas?

Dunno. D! (the executable on the CD) crashes with a runtime error under Windows XP.

Just run the Pwads manually...

Is it one of those runtime error 200 thingies? If so, I believe that has something to do with the executable not being able to cope with modern fast computers. There are 2 solutions I have found. One solution patches the exe so that it no longer has a problem. For exe's that this does not work with (eg a compressed exe) you can get a little TSR program (remember them?) that guess patches it on the fly on something.

Look up TPPATCH.EXE - it patches programs written in Turbo Pascal so they'll run on systems above 200 MHz. This might help.

Yup, that's the patch util I was thinking of. I just couldn't remember its name.

Actually, I kept getting the runtime error 200 because the old video game was not compatible with my system and such, so I downloaded a program called DOSbox that emulates dos (for more info go here, http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/information.php?page=0 ) and was able to string all the PWads I wanted into a set, but I can't get any sound. I'm not sure what's up with that got any ideas?

By the way, thanks for all the help so far! :P :)

Dosbox doesn't emulate Doom very well. If you want sound, you'll have to actually run Doom's SETUP.EXE. But if you want to play the games in ZDoom, take whatever PWads you want and add them into your command line...

Code: Select all

zdoom.exe 1.wad 2.wad 3.wad 4.wad (...)
If that's too hard for you, find a launcher. ZDoom Unleashed, to my understanding, is a good launcher...

Sound with Doom (and other old games) and OS's such as XP is a problem. You could try grabbing VDMsound and running it with that. This improves things but the sound is still far from perfect.

I just solve this problem by using a dual boot system... the only problem ATM is that since I've been running the net from 98se, I've not gone into XP much... I'm addicted to the internet!
