That's exactly what a hub is.Blade3327 wrote:I noticed that many people would like a giant city, with multiple environments. You could do what they did in Strife: different levels for different areas of the city, and everything you do in each area is saved. No intermission. Wait, is that possible?
This would allow for more detail and level design quality...
Rise of the Dead! (still WIP in 2017)

Re: Rise of the Dead!
That's basic hub behavior. Both Hexen and Strife did this.Blade3327 wrote:I noticed that many people would like a giant city, with multiple environments. Re: Rise of the Dead!
I know... that's exactly what I was suggesting. Can you do that in Doom, though? It'd be perfect for a free-roaming mod like Rise of the Dead.
Re: Rise of the Dead!
Yes, and as a matter of fact, I've been doing it since 2001. Hub maps in custom Doom maps have been supported for as far as I can remember.
Re: Rise of the Dead!
One of the main goal for ZDoom (and the thing that gives it so much power) is that if a feature is available in a game, it's available in all other games. You can use hubs in Doom just like you can use ACS in Heretic or Strife dialogues in Hexen or monsters and weapons from all games at the same time. [wiki]RTC-3057[/wiki], [wiki]TUTNT[/wiki], [wiki]ZPack[/wiki] and other famous ZDoom mods have used hubs. [wiki]Demon Eclipse[/wiki] episode 3 will also be a hub.Blade3327 wrote:I know... that's exactly what I was suggesting. Can you do that in Doom, though? Re: Rise of the Dead!
One thing Nash, the money feature where you have to earn money to Buy or Sell things just like Strife
Re: Rise of the Dead!
The money feature would be cool, but how many surviving humans would there be to run the shops?
Missions should also be added, like:
> Search for stronger weapons in the old warehouse.
> Find a safe spot to spend the night.
> Rid the Communication Center of zombies, so that you can get a message out.
> Build a barricade that can withstand an onslaught of at least 10 zombies.
> Search for survivors in the sewers.
> Destroy the zombies in Edgar's basement (Edgar being some survivor, or something lol).
> Find the toolkit needed to build a makeshift turret for your hideout.
> Find a faster ride.
These are just a few random ideas, of course. The talking feature would be helpful when interrogating near-dead zombies. They could answer the Player's questions with soem creepy, unnnerving message.
Need anyone to help with level design or something like that?

Problem with money!
Why pay, when you can kill him and take his loot?
There isn't anybody to stop you.

Re: Rise of the Dead!
That would make doom look like GTA and even talking to anybody else feature would be cool

Re: Rise of the Dead!
@Demolisher: LOL. If the game worked that way, you wouldn't need money...
Vending machines could be added! Some would give out health bars, and some would give out stamina sodas!
Also, the zombies should respawn JUST A LITTLE BIT in different places. There should be no point in the game when there are absolutely no more zombies to kill.
There also needs to be some sort of ending to the story, but with the option to continue play, anyway.

Re: Rise of the Dead!
Oh, like you can Choose to miss the helicopter, to find your own way out, rescuing more people, and living.
But if you get on the helicopter, *Cloverfield Ending*.
