[RELEASE] Fake Volumetric Lighting in Doom!

Projects that have specifically been abandoned or considered "dead" get moved here, so people will quit bumping them. If your project has wound up here and it should not be, contact a moderator to have it moved back to the land of the living.

Funny, I don't recall actually asking, "Caz/Tribeam, can you tell me how do it because I have no fucking clue at all?".

I do recall saying "I know a way to do this with models", which does imply that I've been doing it even before you posted your screenshot.

And, nah, I'm not the ones who's getting all worked up.

...oops, inb4 after flamewar =(
It's never meant to be run in ZDoom. The text file states so.

I don't see anything wrong with experimenting and trying to figure out how something is done, but it's really a dick move to then not even mention who came up with it in the first place and then tell everyone "oh, no need to credit me for my great work! everyone go use it".

Zap's and Wadaholic's volumetric lighting looks much better than this, anyway, and it's not because of the hi-res textures.

Some people really need to shut up here. This effect is so basic that no credit is really needed. What an achievement to place 50 linedefs close to each other until they eat all the performance the engine has to offer to slow down the game.

It implies you were trying to do it but taking it in the wrong direction. That even furthers my point since it means you would not have figured it out.

Apparently it is an achievement to people here since we are both posting in a topic about it.

I wonder how come I never got this worked up when I released my gore mod back then (which featured some original artwork) and it was ripped like hell in every other mod in existence.

I mean, sure, I was like "argh can you guys at least wait until I official release it" but I learnt to get over it. And I defnitely didn't tell everyone modder who used it in their WAD "CREDIT ME OR DIE".

Gosh, this is [censored word]. If put in the text file, "INSPIRED BY A SCREENSHOT THAT DOESN'T REALLY TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT HOW IT'S DONE POSTED BY THE EMPTY MUSUEM TEAM", would all of you shut up?

We aren't threatening you. What we are asking for is not unreasonable, you learned the effect from us (though you deny it for some reason), you claim you invented it (which is not true). Are we saying we invented it? No. All I am saying is if I never posted that picture this thread would not exist. Surely you can appreciate giving credit and I am suprised you are being a hypocrit about it.

EDIT: I'm starting to not care anymore. I thought we had a reasonable request, we didn't think it would make this shitstorm.

Is that what modding is all about to you people? Who created what first?

What happened to modding for self-satisfaction.

I thought the very same. When I posted that shot I expected to hear feedback on it but instead was hit with "OMG HOW DID YOU DO THAT I WANT TO USE IT".

Honestly, I think you should credit wadaholic's wad for the concept of the lighting instead of us. That would make me happy.
