[forum] login by date

Post by kn »

Hi.

How do I log in with a specific user set date? My browser fucked up (crash) after i logged in.After the restart i logged in again and didn't have any new messages.
So the forum software marked everything read. So far, so bad.

But now I'd like to log in with the *real* date of my last login, which is about 20 hrs ago, to watch all new messages since then.

How do I login with "mark all messages as new since <date>"?

i hate it when that happens, it makes me read evrything in one sitting

but on the other hand, i like how it dosent go by "threads you have read" because then id have duplicate "new" posts when i check on my laptop (like im doing now)

The thing I really like is that the forum obviously "remembers" which threads are new to me rather than it being done by a cookie on my machine. That way I can log in at home, read the new stuff, then log in at work and the stuff I read at home is already marked as read.

The only cookies are your login name and simple things like that.

This system is great and really coool and stuff, but like Mr. Kn said, this gets reset if you happen to log off the forums for some reason (or no reason at all). This also includes the times whenever my crappy dialup "internet service" "accidentally" disconnects me. Then I have NO CLUE which posts I have and haven't read because I have no memory. ARGH!!! This annoys the helll out of me. I wish there was sOmE wAy to fix this and stuff plus things.

Thanks to a new phpBB mod I just installed, topics should now only be marked read when you actually read them. So logging in and back out won't clear all your unread messages.

It should, since the unread messages are stored on the database and not in cookies. However, if you read the forum without logging in, then it uses a cookie to track what you haven't read.

Cool and stuff! That helps alot, especially since my Internet service is especially buggy today.
