DOOM Unleashed: Doom 3 ZDoom TC (DEAD)
Re: DOOM Unleashed: A Doom 3-themed ZDoom WAD
Talk about persistency...
Yeah, I got it. Showed too much D3 footage (I wanted to do so, since it fit the structure of the song), used **** music (which, I still don't agree on. Linkin Park 4 EVER!).
Please stop using up this thread for potential flame wars. Seriously, why keep doing this?

HE IS NOT FLAMING YOU. GROW UP.
It is criticism. The use of strong language within his criticism does not indicate flaming. He is giving his opinion. So what if you don't like it? Perhaps your project isn't perfect? Perhaps you could learn something from it, instead of whining about it?

I understand that I used too much D3 footage (that's criticism, I'll admit), but saying that the song I chose is **** is not criticism.
Can we actually talk about the WAD, for starters?

OK, I could've used "awful", "terrible" and "so bad it made my ears bleed" but "shit" was the first word that came to mind. Also, you are allowed to swear on here.Blade3327 wrote:but saying that the song I chose is shit is not criticism.
Re: DOOM Unleashed: A Doom 3-themed ZDoom WAD
I don't mind how you describe it, but an opinion on something (different people like different things) is not exactly criticism.
What bothers me is the fact that this thread was started for a WAD I'm working on. So far, I've seen like, 2 related posts. There are 3 of you or so who just keep dissing eachother. If you're not gonna comment on the work I've done, save it.

Re: DOOM Unleashed: A Doom 3-themed ZDoom WAD
this is just a credit monging, bootleg version of doom3 with a hokuto no doom presentation sprinkled on top as far as I can tell
I suggest doing something original and small before recreating a retail game again if you are not going to expect positive sugar-coated all-kissups-and-brown-nosing feedback
d3mod.wad isn't doom 2.5, it's stolen resources from doom 2.5 without credit, and popularily spread throughout the internet from thereBlade3327 wrote:What? I did give credit to Doom 2.5! Well, I actually gave credit to D3mod.wad! What are you talking about?

Now now, be nice.
Re: DOOM Unleashed: A Doom 3-themed ZDoom WAD
Blade3327, welcome to the internet and in fact the real world. You have to learn how to take criticism, not snap at them in retaliation. It goes without saying that you will find a LOT more of those, even more brutally honest, in real-life.
TDA's comments was nothing - he was being way too nice. Other communities tend to be more harsh and down-to-earth...
In short, learn to take what people say. Right now you look like you're over-reacting. In your case, TDA doesn't like LP and you snap. That's the very sign of an inexperienced and young person who can't accept the fact that different people have different opinions. You said it yourself. If TDA doesn't like the music in your trailer, it really shouldn't bother you that much to the point that you have to snap back (which clearly shows in your posts). What you could have done was just push it away, continue to work on your mod, keep posting updates and if it's good enough, the good posts will come in easily (if good comments is what you want). Also keep in mind that what TDA said might have a point; what if LP really doesn't suit the Doom environment? You need to think. Doom has always been associated with much more heavier and bad-ass metal. Have you thought for once that LP really throws off the Doom vibe?

Learn not to expact people to say stuff about your mod (and if people in fact remain silent, take a hint that your mod simply hasn't garnered enough interest. Deal with it). Mod because you enjoy doing it, not FOR other people.Man, things're slow around here... somebody say something!
You have no idea what the music business is like. I am a professional audio engineer and part-time musician/composer, and I've been thrown even worse comments and crticism. I learnt to take them and it makes me stronger.First of all, never insult a guy's music. That's a given.

Well, I'm gonna start giving credit to Doom 2.5. In fact, I'm doing it already.
I'm trying to recreate Doom 3 for the old-school Doomer, because Doom 2.5 did not have a lot going for it (level design-wise). I just felt like the resources it came with were great, but the levels did not show them the way they were meant to be shown.
This in some ways, makes DOOM Unleashed more unique; I pay quite a bit of attention to the design of each map, so that certain rooms and environments will be familiar to people who've played D3... Plus, every level is done by one person - me.
@Nash: I can take criticism, as long as it's constructive and makes sense from a WAD designer's point of view. If it won't help me in exactly what I'm doing (designing WADs, not making videos), it doesn't matter.

Re: DOOM Unleashed: A Doom 3-themed ZDoom WAD
@Ventris: I'm not. Plus, that's not really the problem here.
I'm also cool with a totally lifeless thread, but out of the blue, first page, someone started an argument with someone else (dunno why...) and more people got in on it. I just don't really get it. There's no need to reply to this, seeing as we've gone over it ever since Page 1.
Bottom line: if it ain't related, it doesn't belong here.
@Everyone: Things have been going great for DOOM Unleashed! MAP02 is comin' along perfectly and I've introduced a new monster into the WAD - the Vulgar from Tormentor's Bestiary! Credit has been given, by the way.
MAP02 features the first appearance of the enormous Mancubus. Screens of the battle are down below! I might also upload a new video, once I add a little more!
@Vegeta: The credit graphic on my DOOM Unleashed WAD was been changed... DOOM 2.5 has replaced D3mod.wad (I didn't know about the rip-off incident) and credit has been added for the new Vulgar, like I said.

Hey your wad isn't the greatest either, I just played and its pretty obvious to me that you are an complete newbie if it comes to mapping.Poor level design and poor usage of textures and it wasn't fun to play, I've been mapping for over ten years you gotta try harder to impress me and the majority of the doom community.Blade3327 wrote:I'm trying to recreate Doom 3 for the old-school Doomer, because Doom 2.5 did not have a lot going for it (level design-wise). Re: DOOM Unleashed: A Doom 3-themed ZDoom WAD
I finally managed to download, because ZShare magically started working again.
It was alright, the textures used in the map were mostly horrible and there's a HOM at the start, and it was very cramped, I recommend making larger hallways with higher ceilings.
The music was good, very fitting but could you make the file size smaller?
The new monsetrs were alright, the Pinky sprites were pretty horrible, I would wait till good sprites are done before adding that monster, and I would recommend replacing the Lost Soul you are using right now with the Forgotten One and please get some new weapons coded and don't just reskin the existing Doom weapons it's shoddy (especially the Blood shotgun big no no), perhaps you could borrow the weapons from the ZDoom/GZDoom Doom 3 weapon mod (these arn't perfect either, the shotgun is way overpowered)
Put simply, get better textures, sprites, Decorate weapons and less cramped areas

Re: DOOM Unleashed: A Doom 3-themed ZDoom WAD
Well, I searched on the internet for a texture pack that was more detailed than that of Doom 2. Believe me, I did.
This one caught my eye, because it did have some Doom 3 resemblences. I also liked it since its textures were a cross between nature and science-fiction.
The HOM is visible if you run the WAD in GZDoom. In ZDoom, it shouldn't be a problem.
I agree that the Pinky sprite is terrible, but it was already in the Doom 2.5 resource pack and a couldn't find a better-looking D3 Pinky.
I've added quite a bit to the levels, since I've uploaded the demo. Hopefully this time around, things'll go a lot better.
I apologize for the large file size, but my ambient Ogg Vorbis music (from Quake) is pretty big... I've deleted some of it from my WAD (just until I finish the levels), so that saving in DB won't take so long.
As for the weapons, I tried to mix in the D3 Weapons Mod with the d3mod.wad weapons, but I can't get it to work. Oh, well.
The Forgotten sprite does look good, but the existing Lost Soul looks more like the D3 one.
Smaller areas were done on purpose (since it's Doom 3), but only a few maps will have that.
It really depends on the theme of each level. For example, my Storage Chambers level has larger rooms (like garages) to fit in all sorts of big monsters and containers.
Plus, MAP03 is based on the Martian Surface. I'm actually dreading that one, but I'll do it (even though I'll probably save it for last). X-)

I recommend the KDiZD Blood Demon (on the R667 Beastiary) for the time being, until a real D3 Pinky is done.Blade3327 wrote:I agree that the Pinky sprite is terrible, but it was already in the Doom 2.5 resource pack and a couldn't find a better-looking D3 Pinky.
