ZDoom setup LAN multiplay?
How do you setup multiplayer network LAN play in ZDoom 1.22? I couldn't find any documention on this. Do I have to use command-line arguments, etc? What is the server/join parameters.
Cheers

please randy PLEASE take 1.22 out of the download page or make a really big link there saying
ZDOOM 1.22 IS OLD!!! GOT 2.0.63 HERE!!! IGNORE 1.22!!! DON'T LOOK BEHIND THE CURTAIN!!!
its amazing how many people get 1.22 and have a problem with it and make NEW THREADS complaining about it then we have to tell them to get 2.0.64 and then the cycle repeats...
something must be done...

If they never return to complain, how do you know they are doing this?cccp_leha wrote:You'd also be surprised how many people download 1.22, see that it doesn't work properly/at all and delete it, never to return...
One of the problems is the way the versions are presented on the downloads page. Another is the way the versions have been classified. 1.22 was unquestionably a release version. 1.23 spent a year or two in "beta" form and when the 2.0.X series started they were known as "pre-releases". All of which implied that 1.22 was still the full, finalised, gold release version and 2.0.X was really only for people wanting to keep up with the development. However, the 2.0.X series seems to have quietly slipped into a more "official" status (whatever that means) and it is generally regarded that 2.0.63 is the current version. That being said, the 2.0.X series are all first time releases without the bugs of new features being worked out. eg When 64 comes out, it will have a host of new features that will need a good thrashing before they can be confirmed as fully working in as many circumstances as possible. So, from that perspective at least, the 2.0.X versions could still be regarded as "beta".
Anyway, for a good LAN game, get 2.0.63
Run the host machine with the -host parameter + any other of the normal command line parameters you want. Run the other machines using the -join parameter specifying the name/ IP address of the host. My home network used to accept computer names with the host parameter, but after some reconfiguration, I need to use the ip address. My computer is known as home on the network. This used to work:
host (the computer known as home)
zdoom -host +other parameters
guest
zdoom -join home
Now I use
host
zdoom -host +other parameters
guest
zdoom -join 192.168.0.51
In case you don't know, you can quickly find out the ip address of your computer by going to the command line and typing ipconfig.
I have lived among humans for a few years, there is a tendancy of some individuals doing so; thus it becomes predictable beaviour. There's a psych major for you. ZDoom 1.22 does work, both source code and the already-compiled ZDoom 1.22 exe. I got it compiled under VC 5.0 with no problems. Though I like to know how to tell VC 5.0 which .c or .cpp files to compile as C or C++ ...cccp_leha wrote:You'd also be surprised how many people download 1.22, see that it doesn't work properly/at all and delete it, never to return...
ZDoom 1.22 is still good and working order. It never crashes and lasts long time with no bugs. Well for me at least. Keep it up.
I don't think 1.22 will work with the parameters I described, because I don't think they were added for 1.22. Also, in coop games, certain older versions of Zdoom were prone to desynching. I don't know if 1.22 was affected by it, but Randy has spent quite a bit of time improving things with 2.0.X. I have played some very long multiplayer games with 2.0.63 and had no problems.
Why not give it a try and see what happens? It is a better version than 1.22.

kevingpo, i got a bit of info for you:
IF YOU REALLY WANT FUN, GET .63
You're running an OLD piece of junk that's capable of....nothing super coolness and stuff plus things and features (R) Bouncy
honestly, you need to keep up with the times.
also, i apparantly need to say this about 1.22:
IT SUCKS!
seriously, if you don't keep up, there's no reason why you said "Keep it up." well, who's the one who needs to update? you.
1.22 is at least 2-4 1/2 years old!
UPDATE! PLEASE! i PROMISE i'll stop nagging you about it if you at least TRY .63
PLEASE?!
you'll be able to do the comparison and see why so many of us are going for .63 now.
