Well, one little map for Pogostick shouldn't take too long as the maps are mostly quite simple. Just take my map as reference and you won't do anything wrong ;)

Re: [Pogostick] Doom Platformer v0.3 online | Help & Contrib.?

Post by Tormentor667 »

Yet another update ;) v0.3 is online, get it from the first post of the thread (attachment)

What's new?
Problem 1 has been solved, 2 is still open :(
Added a Pain indicator graphic
Made the cam NOCLIP
Tuned the first map a bit
HUD Graphic Tuning
...some more stuff...

Your suggestions?
What could be improved? What might be useful in the HUD screen as well next to Health, Armor, Ammo, Weapon and Score?

Your Contributions?
Feel free to make your own platform maps now, doesn't take much time and is quite simple. Just add the script from the first map to your map (except 667 and 666, they are map scripts), add a aiming camera somewhere in the map tagged 1 and let the fun begin ;)

Can't see a download link anywhere.

Oh, I really like what you've done here. I found the controls slightly awkward at first, but only because I couldn't find the right key to bind to turn 180 degrees.

Oh, and as a suggestion, please add some form of currency. As in - coins? Demon hearts? Random power stones?

You mean currency to collect? :) That would be indeed a nice addition :D

For a download link, check the first page. Or get it here ;)

Hmmm, for some reason my hosts file was blocking arcor.de. Anyway, it's looking increasingly professional and I'm getting the hang of the controls too. I like the new HUD too.

Slight bug: the last door is set to open from the outside once only. So if you run back out, the door will shut and you can't get back in again.

Thx Enjay, glad to hear :)

Yeah, the more often you play it, the more used to the controls you get, doesn't seem to work out that bad at all :)

Oh! and can you put the "+dontsplash" flag on the aiming projectiles? They make a noise on my terrain-defined floors and will make a helluva splash if any water/slime/whatever ever gets included.

Hmm, I get a fatal error when trying to load the WAD - "Script error, "DECORATE line 20: "player.damagescreencolor" is an unknown actor property". I'm using ZDoom 2.1.7.

There's your problem. You need a much newer version. Try GZdoom or an SVN version of either.

I just tried out the latest build with a gamepad and it's even more fun. Although, the 180 degree button to turn still takes some getting used to. I think one thing that might make the project better is replacing the hitscan weapons with projectiles, just like Action Doom.

Would it be possible instead of a laser sight that there would be a targeting reticule?

Thanks Enjay, now I got it working. This is absolutely awesome. I'm a big fan of the Commander Keen platformers but this is even better because it's Doom. Anyone who doesn't try this out needs to die. But not immediately. Preferably they'd die over the course of several days, under horrible agony.

What I did with the controls was this:

UP ARROW = Strafe Left
DOWN ARROW = Strafe Right
LEFT ARROW = Back
RIGHT ARROW = Forward
Z = USE
X = JUMP
C = CROUCH
V = FIRE

This makes controlling the Doomguy pretty intuitive... that is until you turn around.
