Rex has confirmed the file is intact so hopefully people should be able to get it OK. As I said before, mirrors are welcome.

It's much faster now (2230 hrs, US Eastern Standard Time). When I downloaded it earlier today it took me about 45 min, and just now it looked like it would take only about 10 min.

Ok, another authorised mirror here:

ZIP file

Text file

GZdoom build r13

I've just tested the links; they all work, and the server is capable of download speeds in excess of 100 KB/s. Of course, what you get will depend upon a number of factors, including your own Internet connection speed, and the subsequent load on the server.

Note that this server is located in Australia, so expect slower download speeds if you're outside Oceania. Never-the-less, feel free to use this from elsewhere.

EDIT: correction of bad editing. :(

Thanks again for helping me out with this gentlemen.

For infomation r16 of GZdoom has been released:

https://sourceforge.net/project/showfil ... _id=254133

It fixes a few minor bugs that were present in r13, none of which affected this particular mod, but it seems to be a very nice, stable build. I just played the mod through with it and everything worked as expected.

Firstly; yay for the release! Good job Enjay!

However... I'm getting really slow downloads on both David's server and Rex's DRDTeam server.

More mirrors please!

Wow, I'm surprised more people haven't responded yet.

Anyways, played through the entire thing, and I have to say, I'm pretty sure it has the one of the best atmospheres of any Doom mod I've ever played. What it lacks in massive amounts of sector detail is made up for with all the other kinds of details. The use of models was excellent, even if it did manage to drop the framerate in some places. The HQ was done excellently, with all the 3D floors. The train at the beginning of the rail line was awesome to see in a Doom mod. And all the other little details that are in there. Not to mention it was fun, and had a slightly more tactical feel to it than normal Doom, even with ammo being readily available.

Anyways, there's gotta be criticism. And I've got a bit. Mainly the skyboxes. While they were good if you just glanced at them while playing through the levels, if you actually take a look at them, especially the night ones, you can see massive amounts of jpg artifacting. Personally, I think they would've looked better as pngs, but I'm not sure if the originals you were working off of had too many colors for that or not. Maybe even just higher quality jpgs. Unless that's how you found them. In which case... Nevermind

Also, one thing that struck me as weird. You had a few places where you made it so the player could purposefully access them, but didn't give any purpose for doing so, like on top of the trains, and the secret cave that contained nothing. I think it would've been cool if there was something on top of the train, maybe some extra ammo or something, and maybe some purpose to the empty cave.

Other than that, though, I really can't think of anything else off the top of my head that bothered me at all. Overall, it was definitely an excellent mod, and I'd definitely like to see more of it's like :)

Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you had fun with it. I'll adress the points you made (which are all fair ones BTW).

Skyboxes, yeah, I know. The jpg artifacts annoyed me too. That's how I got them. Normally I use PNGs for skyboxes but these ones were already jpegs and looked how I wanted (except for the artifacts) and I couldn't find another, good, complimentary set that would suit all the levels in the way I wanted.

Getting on the train: Well, behind the engine there are a few shells lying on the foot plate. I didn't put anything on the roof because I couldn't see any reason for there being something on the roof (although I did consider it). The main reasons that I set things up so that you can get on top were: I'd already made it the correct height to allow shots to go over it rather than impacting on something invisible in the sky so, it was almost accessible anyway and I just made the ladders on the side usable because I knew someone would try it and I thought it would be more satisfying to know that it truly is 3D by being able to stand on it. Also, if you really want, you can nip up there and use it to tactical advantage when dealing with the enemies in that area (not that they are that tough).

As for the cave, glad you found it. Shame you didn't go back after you'd cleared out the base. It could have made the job of placing your charges a lot easier. ;)

If the filesize is 33 MB then I'm almost positive /idgames will host it. Have you submitted it there?

This looks really great. I would get it now but I'm downloading TF2 and that's already taken a huge bite out of my bandwith.

It's not so much the file size but the content. The music lumps are MP3s from commercial games. I know idgames is full of resources ripped from other games but... well I dunno. There could well be other resources that perhaps shouldn't go on idgames and I don't remember where a lot of them came from. Again, how much that is really an issue, I don't know. It's true that now that they've been ogged down to size, the music lumps aren't much of a size issue. There are certainly bigger projects on idgames already.

As for other resources, there is a chainsaw replacement weapon that I simply forgot to remove. I don't think you actually get it in any of the levels, but it's there anyway. I *think* the graphics may have come from HacX or something like that, albeit that I butchered it to put a different hand on it. Whether anyone really cares about that or not, yet again, I don't know. There could well be other stuff too and certainly, although just about everything has been edited in some way, shape or form by me, resources have come from all over the place. But, that is the case with a significant number of mods on idgames already. Anyway all I really wanted to do was to give people a chance to play this. I don't know that it really needs to be preserved for posterity or anything.

Whilst I'm on about resources, does anyone recognise the sprites used for the armour vests and the invisibility armour? I can't remember where I got the original sprites from. They are high(ish) res, so probably not a Doom mod. I'm thinking maybe a Build game like Tekwar or something? I was just wondering, that's all.

Can't you just e-mail Ty and persuade him into allowing it on idgames?

(Also, still no mirrors? :( )

With a bit of luck, one day I will be able to ask Ty in person. He quite often flies across that big ole pond to the left of Britain and works in Aberdeen, a few short miles from me, and we have failed (mainly due to me) to meet on numerous occasions now. However, I'm personally not that bothered about pushing for it to go on idgames. Once most people who want to play it have it, I'm not sure how much additional need there is.

In other news, I've submitted the mods release to Doomworld news, which should hopefully be up there soon.

EDIT: It's up.
