Or, if you haven't already, you could convert everything to a lower bitrate .ogg. Usually, the difference in quality is unnoticable, and you can save quite a bit of space by doing that, too.

This looks really... realy good. Where are you pinching the models from btw? This looks like it has the biggest use of models next to my UBERSECRETWAD. Anyway can't wait to play it.
Someone/I need to make a model resource page for GZDoom some time. They're hard to find!

Re: BGPA Missions - Burghead Liberation - Not out yet
Where am I pinching the models from? Anywhere and everywhere I can. I've spent some considerable time trawling around all kinds of sites and poking through a number of games to track down as many models as I can. I even bought one (not used in these levels). I wanted to replace all the static items in my own version of the project with models but wasn't happy doing it until I had a complete set that satisfied the criteria I laid down earlier for what I considered consistent use of models. To that end, I have probably well over 1000 models sitting on my HD in various states of usability. Most of the ones I have used have been edited to a greater or lesser extent by me and I made a few simple ones too. In my own project I have defined and used almost 300 of them.
I'm not entirely sure how many are genuinely used in these levels. There are 148 currently in the zip but looking at the list right now, I can see a lot that I'm pretty sure are not used. So I'll trim some of them out again to save on file size. The worry is removing models (and other resources) that are needed and then not noticing that they are missing until after I release the mod. You know what it's like when you run through your own levels checking them, you always miss something.

Heh yeah i've often deleted textures and crap I thought I wasn't using to find half my wad turned into a checkerboard.
So are you willing to share these models of yours? (not the bought one you mentioned though, I assume that would be rather ill eagle) Or even better, does anyone wanna help me start up a model resource page? Maybe we can ask Grubber to host it if enough people want it.
Yeah i'll let you carry on talking about your awesome looking wad now

Enjay, I am glad to see that you're getting the hang of the world of 3-d models. See, wasn't that hard now was it? ;)

I had a good tutor.Nash wrote:Enjay, I am glad to see that you're getting the hang of the world of 3-d models. See, wasn't that hard now was it?

@Cutty, a large number of the models are easily available anyway. I can post up a bunch of links in due course. There can be a bit of work making them compatible with GZdoom. I've done a few for Heretic/Hexen items that are intentionally not exact replicas of the originals but, IMO, carried some of the feel of them (mainly made by cutting and pasting existing models). I'm really pleased with how some of the torches worked out. These can all be switched on and off (and use SolarSnowfall's flame effects).

I'm also quite pleased with my Hexen "Tableshit" collection:

My main sources have been Sitters, BlackRayne, RTCW, Jedi Outcast, Q2, The Doomsday packs and the Duke Hi res project.
Here are some shots from my test level and, yes, it runs very slowly.

how many of those models would work well with space related scifi stuff? as it is right now i could use those dishes in the last pic, this could enhance Infestation a bit so im willing to try using them
edit - and the lights, i MUST have the lights as well

Re: BGPA Missions - Burghead Liberation - Not out yet
I didn't. I learned how to chop up existing models and stick them back together in the shapes I wanted. I still haven't mastered doing new models from scratch. Nash got me started. He pointed me at a couple of decent programs that are suitable for a n00b and from that point I just kept plugging away. He also directed me to some tutorials which will help me make stuff from scratch but, for a variety of reasons, I haven't had the chance to sit down and work through them yet. Maybe once this Burghead thing is out of the way.§-Morpheus-§ wrote:Where did you learn to make 3D models, Enjay?
Quite a lot of it. Although it might not be obvious from the Burghead screenshots, the feel for my own project is futuristic/scifi so those have been the ones I've concentrated on getting hold of. The feel for the Inca stuff, although it is set about 400 years into the future is quite WWII but the other main scenario in the project (Red Giant) is definitely Sci-fi.hnsolo77 wrote:how many of those models would work well with space related scifi stuff?

That's my adaptation of a well known space level (not by me) already in the archives (I forget its name though). Most of the red giant levels are set on terrestrial bases rather than in space though.
The big satellite dishes are from Quake2 and have just been recoloured. The little one is from the Duke Nukem pack. I've animated some of the quake ones.

Most of the lamps are edits by me and can't be found in that form anywhere else. At some point I will be able to package them up and make them available.
With a bit of work, the models from Jedi Outcast can be converted. I've half-done an X-Wing and that stasis tube thing in the screenshots is from there. You may also notice "The Raven's Claw" ship and a shuttle ship (not an imperial shuttle) in the screenshots too.

ok a reinstall of quake2 and the quake pak extractors should work for the quake stuff...
and i may as well give a try at making my own models, i may have more luck with that than i do making sprites

Re: BGPA Missions - Burghead Liberation - Not out yet
The problem I found with the Quake2 stuff was that, presumably because it is an early game of its type, the models are very low poly and the skins are small/low res and a bit shoddy too in a lot of cases. There is some good stuff in there though and I have certainly have fun with themhnsolo77 wrote:ok a reinstall of quake2 and the quake pak extractors should work for the quake stuff...

pretty cool, as it is for the quake 2 models i just might try to reskin them a bit using some altered textures from the texture pak im using
Re: BGPA Missions - Burghead Liberation - Not out yet
Wow, what level is that from, Enjay? Have you released it yet? That looks like a lot of fun.Enjay wrote:hnsolo77 wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzdml88eY-E
Re: BGPA Missions - Burghead Liberation - Not out yet
The level is actually a DM map by Boris called FBase4. I just added the skybox and messed around with stuff when I was trying out models and texture substitutions. So, nothing to release really, it was just a test.
Re: BGPA Missions - Burghead Liberation - Not out yet
Some observations:
- 1. Excellent back-story.
2. Terrific gameplay premise.
3. Very cool screenshots.
4. Familiar models (heh), all very nice.
5. Nice-looking outdoor environments.
6. Wonderful sky-boxes.
