That's not how copyright works. Just because it is shareware does not make it public domain. If something was not released under license to create derivative work then you can't do it. And, I believe that shareware Doom is not licensed this way, hence its refusal to play with add-ons. E1 Shareware is NOT something you're allowed to work on and modify.Hellser wrote:Episode 1 is shareware, so anyone can work on those.. Episode 2, 3, 4 are bought and working on them will be kinda weird...
That said, E1 was released with all the other episodes under a different license when you buy it. The license when you buy it states that derivative works are permitted. So, All content from the paid version of Doom (which includes E1) can be modified and released for use with Doom (Note: Not for use with Doom 2).

Dutch Devil wasn't complaining about anything, he was merely making a suggestion. A worrying number of people do seem to think the two things are synonymous, though.
At any rate, since Kaiser's post is itself full of fail and complaints, perhaps he ought to spend some time considering his own comment that "someone isn't happy until they got something to complain about" (sic). (Especially considering TCIF 3 appears to be one ginormous thinly-veiled bitch-fest about trends, events, and people he doesn't like.)
