The Great Hobbs ZDoom Map

Post by Hobbs »

Its going to be great. Made by me. And it will be for ZDoom. Probably some sort of dark castle or something of the sort. I thought I'd try a bit of ZDoom mapping, see how I liked it, maybe see if theres some good reason for it that I'm missing after all.

I don't really have screenies yet because its mostly a fugly layout but I promise some soon.

Sounds like a really dumb idea and I hope you give up after a few minutes of working on it.

EDIT: I mean good luck

Actually do it. I'm sure it might raise our estimation of you if you actually made something, and it was good.

If he were just an asshole, then I don't think he'd be able to post let alone use a computer at all..

Hm, this doesn't sound too bad, and hopefully it turns out well. Good luck.

10 reasons why ACS Scripting is good for you:

You get to be creative: Come up with your own ideas and see how they work!

It can help you in real life: You will get the experience of programming, which can lead to new opportunities in real life (including jobs)

You actually contribute to the ZDoom Community: No matter how shitty a map is, you are still contributing something (as long as it's not WOW.WAD style-my map wasn't the greatest but it can still be used by others who want to learn a little ACS Scripting). I believe that contributing to a community such as this one definitely has it's share of benefits.

You use your mind: Many people fail it here. Use your mind or lose it.

It gives you something to do if you are bored: If you are bored and have nothing to do, then you can go get working on the ACS map. Not only is it fun, but it's good for your mind!!

It raises self-esteem: Believe me, it does. When you get something to work, you will (and should be) proud of yourself. In this matter, ACS can save your life (from suicide resulting from depression).

Not that hard: ACS might take a little time to learn, but it's not really that hard. I am sure many people who would make potentially good maps do not even try because they think "ACS is too hard". These people are lazy and do not have faith in themselves.

It raises Reputation: As long as your map shows that you put some work into it, people will view you as a person who is committed to their work. It doesn't matter if the map sucks, you still put effort and that effort will earn some reward.

Gain important real life skills: A map is a project. A project involves planning, time management, checking and fixing errors, cooperating with other people (in this case, asking questions), and lots more. This just might be a ZDoom map, but you can gain valuable knowledge than can be used in real life - especially if you are going to work in the Computer Programming Industry or Game Design/ Development.

Win-Win Situation: There is no risks involved in making a map. Just be sure to backup your maps. The worst that can happen is that the map does not get finished. However, you still learn something even if a map is not finished.

These reasons assume you are actually committed to your map (which means no trolling the forums, you won't have time anyways and people don't want to help trolls)

Good Luck!

Now lets not start a flamewar in the thread. Doesn't do any good.
