Demo Converter?

Post by TomMustaine »

Hey all,

Did quite a few searches, but no luck. I'm trying to final a way to convert oldschool Doom2 demos to Zdoom format.

Has anybody successfully converted demos between the two source versions?

Thanks in advance!

it's not possible. Even if you could convert it it'd desync immediately.

Well, understandable I guess, lots of stuff added to Zdoom networking messages.

Does anybody know of a classic Doom2 source port that works under windows, that doesn't nerf the original demo format? I've tried Zdoom, Jdoom, windoom. None of them work with the old demos.

Anybody?

Thanks!

Have you tried Chocolate Doom or PrBoom?

There's no point in using that when you have PrBoom and Chocolate Doom, and if you really need/want to play vanilla you can get it to run on XP with a bit of effort, or just use DosBox.

Why does it seem that I'm like the only one in existance for whom the mouse worked just fine on Doom95?

Doom95 was nice to have for the period of time before source ports came about. It ran without problems on newer versions of Windows and was higher resolution than vanilla Doom. Of course now there is definately no real need for it.

The mouse worked fine with Doom95 for me. So did the MS SideWinder. In fact, it was probably the only thing the SideWinder worked correctly with.

Question: was your mouse serial or PS/2 or USB? Mine was serial.

Pretty sure it was a PS/2 mouse. I don't remember ever having a serial mouse, and I haven't been getting USB mice until 4 or 5 years ago.

The only thing that makes me think that Doom95 was rubbish is the mouse stuff. Apparently it was hit and miss, though I rarely had any trouble with it as long as I used my serial trackball.

Is that the only issue the rest of the community had with it?
