Recently I seem to have been suffering from a problem I sometimes do when mapping, and thats I slow down and practically stop on what I'm working on. What causes it I don't know, possibly an attention span issue I seem to have, but I'm gonna experiment with this a bit and maybe just try messing around enough. However, this makes me a bit more worried I won't finish mine in time at all, especially with my move next weekend. Right now though I could use some help with music, I was originally going to use a module but it turns out its making the wad too big, so I'm going to have to revert against my MIDI... also I need a method of making a working ladder quite bad...

Oh, I should mention, too, that for music I usually only do orchestral stuff, is that alright, Phobus? Or do you want a different style?

Actually, I think that orchestral music would fit that map quite well, strangely enough. :P

And as for me... I've had one HELL of a major setback. I hate to have to say this, but I'm afraid that I might not be able to continue mapping for a bit... Last weekend, we had some pretty big thunderstorms out in this area. Yep, I'll bet you know what happens next... I had the damn thing turned off and everything, but guess what? It was still plugged into the wall, and apparently that was enough to zap it into the state of not turning on. >_<

Don't panic, though. My dad (who happens to be a computer expert... moreso than me, anyway) has confirmed that the hard drive is, in fact, completely fine. I was able to jury-rig an old system of mine to my internet connection, so that's why I'm able to post here now. Unfortunately, this computer has no Doom on it whatsoever... and subsequently, no map. So now what?

I hope to get my computer fixed within a week or so, at which point I'll be able to finish the map... but the issue is the 'deadline'. I really, really want to contribute a map to this project, but I also don't want to hold the project back too long in case they decide to wait for my map. So what should be done? Well, it's up to Caligari to decide, I guess. As soon as I get the chance, I want to finish up the map in hopes of getting it done in time for the project, but I really don't want to skip the deadline... there's been way, WAY too many projects of mine that I simply never get around to finishing.

I'd hate to delay your project, Caligari, so... when exactly is the exact deadline for the wad? I'll have to wait until I get my computer back to see what can be done... Sorry for the inconvenience, either way.

My timing fails it so badly it's not even funny. >_<

But most importantly... STAY ALIVE.

The deadline doesn't really matter, just early april, as long as you get it in.

@farlowj: If orcjhestral adds to the classical Roman/Greek theme, then it's a real plus. I don't think the style will be a proble, so long as it fits the theme. I've just recently played a level that used Micheal Jackson's Smooth Criminal as a base for the midi, and that was great. As you are doing such a big favour even offering to make the music, I will not try to force too much out of you, because what you can offer is the best you can do, and demanding more is ungrateful and selfish, amongst other bad things.

@MOD: Perhaps it might be in your best interests to keep to your original music plans, as size is more preferance than anything else, and a dl link form a public hosting site isn't the worst thing that could happen to us. As for the ladder, I'd reccommend looking at the ladder in ZDCMP, or placing a ladder/wall texture in front of a thin steep flight of stairs, like in Eternal Doom.

@Xaser: Bad luck dude, hopefully this wont stop the map permanantly. I'm interested in seeing more void style levels. :)

Well, atatched are 2 different MIDI's, one is complete (track01MIDI), and the other is about 24 seconds long, and will be finished if that's the one you want. I included the track01MIDI because that was supposed to be used in the Arctic Wolf remake, and I'm not sure what's going on there, so I'll see if you think it fits here. I don't want it to go to waste, not saying that it will, but it might work out well in this wad. Ummm, the other one is not finished, but seems more, I guess, Roman...ish. The one for actic wolf is supposed to brass heavy because of the military like setting. Anyway, let me know, and I'm in no big rush. Oh, and if you want a much better sounding version of the Arctic Wolf one, let me know because Nash used Reason's soundbank, which is friggin awesome, to make it sound better.

The full length track is excellent farlowj!!!

That's not to say the other one is bad, but that track is brilliant. In fact, I'll include that in the wad right now and sort out all of the scripting errors, just to clean things up.

Thank you so much :D

Double Post

Well, I've sorted out the scripts a little (made the teleport script summon lights after the landing as well, to make them visible if nothing else), and changed those 37 line code blocks into mere 7 liners (7 due to the fact that TID 2 is not included).

I've also made the aeon/beamfire noise actually play by putting it in the aeonbeam*colour* SeeSound as well, as before it didn't seem to activate when called in the Aeon's attack sequence. However I left that line in as well.

Then of course, thanks to farlowj, I've included a midi track, setting it up in the mapinfo and everything. It over-dramatises the first aeon fight, but fits the theme and fills the empty sound space mentioned earlier. Well, that and it sounds pretty damn good and enhances the arena feel of the map to no end. :D

All right, I will add this updated version to the WAD then. So far, this is the only submission, but hopefully we'll see more in the next few days.

farlowj wrote:T-1, that's a good start, but could use a little more detail. Perhaps some ceiling and floor variation, and a couple of light sources would add quite a bit without causing too much trouble. You also might want to upper/lower unpeg the textures on that window on the left there, unless that's the look you want. Maybe, instead of having metal5 for that part, you could make some vents or something using that texture on the ceiling? Just an idea, and it's your map, so do what you want.
Thanks, I'll try that.

I'm still working on it. Don't expect anything that good from me, like I said. I'm still working on it. This would be my first publicly released wad.

I'm just checking in right now to let everyone know that I'm still hard at work on that level of mine. I'll be working on the map in three stages: The structure phase, the progression phase, and the gameplay phase. I'm about a third or so through with the structure phase, which is certainly the longest of the three (progression is actually providing a path through the level and make it fully functional, and gameplay is self explanatory). I would show off a screenshot or two, but I'm not on my main computer right now (until Sunday) and it's hard to upload screenshots that aren't there! Don't worry, I'll still get my submission in, although I'll need to work hard to fulfill the grand plans present near the end of the level!

Of course, I could be lying, but you don't really need any reason to suspect at the moment, right? ;)

This may be a double post, but it is necessary as this is a necessary update.

Firstly, I would like to verify that I did, in fact, lie about what I said above. I did not work on the map at all since my first two shots. These next five screenshots do not exist and are simply a figment of your imagination.

Lounge (infected)

Lobby (thirsty?)

Vehicle Storage (ugly)

Underdetailed Hallway (surprising...)

As you can see, I did indeed gain a bit of progress in different spots. There are currently no THINGS other than decorative objects, and gameplay is absent for roll call. I am still working hard on this one and it will turn out quite good, hopefully. I shall simply have to wait for your verdict on this one, it seems.

It's so nice to finally have screenshots that I can actually see!

Looking good, man. I think you're well on your way to another great entry in this challenge :D

I am afraid I will have to drop out of this project :( I've been put under alot of stress lately due to, well lets just say "family issues" and I haven't gotten any work done on the map at all last few days between when I do get the rare chance having no desire to at all and well, not getting a chance. And I only see more and more stress this week and little time, and the map is nowhere near complete. So I unfortunately have to leave. Sorry, but I just can't deal with something like this under the stress my grandmother is putting me through, along with the fact I move in a week. So, in a nutshell, I'm out. Sorry :(

Well, like I said on YIM, don't sweat it. I'd love to see your map, but if you have other matters causing you stress, that should take precidence. Best of luck, man.
