Wiki

Post by randi »

A Wiki for ZDoom is now available at http://zdoom.org/wiki/. It uses the same MediaWiki software as the popular Wikipedia. Unfortunately, MediaWiki's installation process is designed for somebody who has root access to the server. I don't, so I had to make some modifications to the installation, and it's possible something broke in the process, so the wiki is deemed "experimental" until it's seen a good bit of use. I don't expect any problems, but I've never installed a wiki before, either.

If giest so what as thinks about touching that I will nuke him that little *fucktard!!!!!!

*A new breakfast cerial originally intended to replace pop tarts, but was considered too much of a mouthfull, so they discontinued it...

Okay, checked out the wiki and it looks nice... but blank. I'm gonna do my part by adding what I have fount out (not much, buit it's something :-) ) and then I willk copy all the stuff from the Zdoom refrence. I don't have a lot of time, but I feel that it would be nice to add this stuff as I apreciate that randy doesn't have the time to do this. Okay, I got a lot of work to do...

My Zdoom-specific knowledge is very very limited. But I guess I could write a bunch of reviews about Zdoom-specific maps. I'll be glad to help. If only the ominous exams weren't coming!

Thanks a load Randy :) Just think, now you won't have to worry about people bugging you about documentation ever again! Oooh, and mediawiki too, thanks again!

edit: you might want to replace the flower though :) (assuming this beta works out)

Goodbye documentation.
I hope there is a way to get the whole zwiki database to an offline tarball or so.

As you can with wikipedia (which also uses mediawiki), I imagine it's probably possible

Can some brave soul add the other special lumps? I've done mapinfo... that should be bang up to date :-) and I love that auto menu system... do you think it looks OTT for the mapinfo?

You might notice that I have practically done most of the specials... plus I've added some new ones, this took like 3 hours... but I was listening to cool music and it was mostly just copy and paste from the refrence :-D. We really need those know it alls like Cyb, Lilwhitemouse, Nanamy, Ty and Enjay to fine tune things then it will be complete.

How would you copy this to disk? once it's complete I'd like an hard copy so I can quickly check on stuff without going on the net...

Oh, randy, can you add the wiki to the main Zdoom page... just for ease to locate purposes ;-).

Question: would it be OK if this also covered topics that weren't specific to ZDoom? I'm not talking about making this a Legacy editing reference, but to cover the Doom and Boom basics that ZDoom is compatible with. Including technical details such as how the binary lumps are structured etc, I could do a couple of such writeups.

It seems like it's naturally expanding out to cover all Doom stuff already :P But yes, I'm curious too; is that encouraged?

Cool! I just went and finished the DEHACKED part, including a convenient link to Enjay's website for the dehacked tutorial.

What got my attention is that pages that have been edited do not directly show up! This has led me to confusion so now there exist "ExtraLight" and "ACS:ExtraLight" (newer one). Randy, if you please could remove it.
For ZDoom Wiki en general: would not it be wise to move all ACS functions to the "ACS" group?
