I was hoping to get the street signs in before uploading a new copy, but I don't want to work on them until the alignment issue (in the bugs forum) has been decided on. That might be awhile so here's the current version anyway.
Things have been balanced a bit more. Artifacts and Crystal Vials have been added to the other unlucky adventurers bodies, including a few Hexen items.
Added Timon's axe to weapon pool. Also, weapons are now level dependant. The wand is only available from level 2+, crossbow 3+, and so on. Timon's axe is 5+, so it bumps the remaining weapons up one.
The Clink/Sabreclaw enemy has been added to the pool, and the Golem/Golem leader as I mentioned before. I'm going to play with the experience gains as attaining level 6+ becomes quite a time consuming task.
The "config room" has been added for those of you with performance issues. Rain still can't be turned off completely yet though, I haven't decided how I want to do it.

I think the notification after each kill should be a little more compact, something like:
"IMP LEADER: 9XP/12GP GAINED" (with the word "gained" optional, of course, depending on what fits).
Also, at times I think there should be more fodder enemies thrown in with the tougher ones, even though that often results in getting backed into a corner and slaughtered... I think weapons should be more resistant to damage. I think armor should be more common. So far I have never had more than 3 pieces of armor at a time. I think those imps/imp leaders are a pain in the ass because if you want to save ammo you have to wait for them to come down.
You mentioned the current levelling problem... perhaps the requirement for the next level should be the requirement for the last level times 1.25? Would that be too easy? It seems a lot of RPG's seem to double the increase for each level or something, and that seems a bit extreme if you're in with one set of enemies for a long time with no "bosses" or whatever.

Enemies are randomly selected. I've been lvl 5 and entered a level populated with mostly rats once. Also, at times I think there should be more fodder enemies thrown in with the tougher ones, even though that often results in getting backed into a corner and slaughtered...
Like everything else, armor is luck of the draw. It has about 1 in 6 chance of being dropped. Sometimes I'll have very little, other times I'll have a complete suit by lvl 4.I think armor should be more common. So far I have never had more than 3 pieces of armor at a time.
I don't think the problem is the experience required, it seems rather natural to me. It's the exp you gain that doesn't seem balanced. You only get +8 exp per monster level. It ought to be a point multiplier so that say a Mummy Leader will yield enough exp to gain lvl 6 without too much expended time.perhaps the requirement for the next level should be the requirement for the last level times 1.25?
Eventually I'll get around to adding the "plot". Eventually...

It kinda took me a bit to realize that the scenery never changes...
Is there no helmet or... what do they call what's between breastplate and greaves?
Just another minor complaint: I don't think the armor stands up to enough damage before disappearing.
Right now I'm at level 8 or so in chapter 13 using "kill monsters" and noclip to quickly gain experience and enter new chapters quickly to do it again. Haha.
Every now and then you need a BIG boss battle AND plenty of fodder. Perhaps you could do some big temple level, a nature level (such as a quick kill-spree through a valley/river area, something linear), and some kind of mostly dark underground dungeon thing? Keep the main progression in the city, sure, but having such diversions every now and then would make it easier to play this for hours on end.
Also, I think your architecture could use a little touching up, but I'm rather picky about that no matter what.

That's probably my fault. I moved the hud color to the config room, and deleted the original script. The new script does something different now.HotWax wrote:Right after I hit the C key to cycle my hud color:
I've deleted the key from the configuration menu, but I imagine the bind will remain in the INI.

The stack shows -- besides what is "currently" in the stack (which is from the stack pointer to the top of the stack) -- what is in memory. If it goes past the stack pointer, it of course shows what was last there in memory for that area.wildweasel wrote:Wow, the stack contents are unreadable...usually I can make out 5 or so text strings on the rightmost column, but here it's mostly boxes and a single "Service Pack 1".
EDIT: Okay, found some other stuff - "Heretic Autoload", and "-moveleft"...the -moveleft seems interesting...

Just some update information.
All of Heretic's monsters, minus D'sparil and ghosts, are now included. Get up to level 6 and even Minotaurs (with reduced HPs) will be used. Imp's don't start getting used until Lvl 4 now though. Would adding another Golem type be too much? I was thinking of adding an Ice Golem, using the wendigo actor and blue tinted mummy sprite. What about an Armored Mummy Leader, using the Revenant actor?
Exp/Leveling is almost to my satisfaction. I'm going to invert the GameSkill() modifier though. On easy you currently level up faster, but that makes the game harder because you end up fighting tougher monsters will fewer items/armor/weapons. I've slightly increased the chance of an enemy dropping something from 25% to 40%.
I've got one miniboss almost done, and another in the works. That leaves one more miniboss to find, and the final boss. Anyone have any suggestions where I can find sprites suitable for a Heretic boss? Once I get all the bosses in place the mod will be more or less "done".
I've added two more items:Health Up potion, and Mystic Anvil. The Health Up potion will increase your HP and max HP by 3. The Mystic Anvil will repair all your weapons (but not armor).
The shops have been re-done. With the exception of the healer, they each get their own themed building now. I don't believe the pawn made it into the last copy. You can opt to sell any ammo you don't want, and have a chance at purchasing a weapon you don't have.
A Gender option has been added to the config room. All it does though is change the breast plate icon. Selecting 0 rain now terminates the script, selecting any other amount starts it up again.

Mousie, I think I seriously love you
About the monster types - I didn't really like the golem which used the Hexen minotaur, the one that blocks your projectile attacks. It slowed the game a bit in terms of action pace. As for monster sprites - XWE has a large list of supported games, I guess something can be taken from in there.

Not yet. As soon as I finish up the gem bosses I'll upload a fresh copy. The plot script won't be in place, but you can play up to destroying the last cursed gem.Ultraviolet wrote:Mouse: You've named changes, but have you uploaded the version they are implemented in?
I have to insert the plot, map & script the final arena area, probably a few other however minor things to do, and it'll be "done". I'm still hoping on a verdict concerning the aligning of high res textures as well.

I didn't go over it properly, so beware of bugs.
