I prefer the official ZDoom releases to all the others, however I am not happy with 96, 97 and havn't bothere much with 98. I don't see the point of using 96x when GZDoom has all of the above and OpenGL is optional (I'm not really a OpenGL user).
So right now I'm using GZDoom, but I'll probably move back to ZDoom when it has its next stable release,,, whenever that is.
If it doesn't require ZDoom then I'll probably use PRBoom or Chocolate-Doom, so far none of the other ports apeal to me enough for me to use them regularly.

I vote (and primarily use) .96x because of the DECORATE features.
I'd really love to use the latest official release (98), but it lacks all the fancy features of the unofficial build. I'll wait until Randy fully implements all the .96x features into the official build.
When I want 3-d features, I'll use the latest GZDoom releases available because GZDoom's fast and stable, and has .96x features.

Since finding GZDoom.. I prefer it over ZDoom simply because it uses OpenGL (and the fact I can put my 3D card to better use like use anisotropic filtering) and frequent updates (the good and bad that comes with it)
The only time I'd use ZDoom is to see if a bug can be reproduced (to isolate the problem if it isn't GZDoom related).
I like updating unless the update causes problems. Then again.. I haven't used many maps that take advantage of ZDoom (I prefer the original games.) The only reason to have ZDoom (when GZDoom did not exist) was because of the Strife support (which has gotten like 95% of the stuff correctly).
I guess it's a matter of what you want of ZDoom to warrent what you use..
GZDoom for better graphics..
ZDoom (recent builds) for bug fixes that affect you
ZDoom (older builds) for netplay

I hope you don't mind me saying this, but once you've bought a high-definition TV with 1080i support, satellite service, TiVo, and component RGB video input, it's not likely that you're going to need the old-and-busted 17-inch TV with the coaxial input, VCR, and bunny-ear antenna for much aside from nostalgia, right?HobbsTiger1 wrote:Oops I flamed about a feature. Then again I'm talking to a person who believes that Vanilla sucks, which I will never be able to fathom.
Wrong. And your example fails it. No-one in their right mind would compare vanilla to an old-and-busted etc. etc.
Edit: 'No-one in their right mind' should read 'No real Doom fan'.
