What do I download?

Post by Zebes »

I want the latest version of ZDoom, but, I'm not sure what exactly to download. Could someone kindly point me in the right direction?

The latest version is 2.0.97. Printed in large letters it states that it is the latest version and you can download it by clicking a link next to the text. You get the latest version from the downloads page, you get to the downloads page from the main page by clicking the downloads button. Looking before you post is good.

Don't sweat it. Great thing about this particular port is that there isn't a bunch of files you have to download separately.

Download the latest version the above poster mentioned, extract it to a folder, and run the .exe file. If you want an easier time loading up custom wads, you might want to grab a frontend, I love Biohazard's ZDL (located in the frontend section of the documentation link I believe), which runs the ZDoom application file through a more convenient means.

Bare minimum is just the ZDoom file though.

ZDoom Current Version: 2.0.97
If you have problems, and don't want to play Strife: 2.0.63a

Also there's a new port of ZDoom in town, GZDoom. It features true 3d floors and a hardware based renderer.

Heh. Well, if you want everything you'd ever need there's .63a, .96, .96x, .97 and GZDoom. I'd say that's quite a bunch. You can skip .96 but it's still a bunch then.

And Hi-Tech Hell. Its use of 3D-floors is even more impressive than Nimrod. There were places in these levels that looked absolutely incredible for something Doom based. (If you haven't played it yet you should do so ASAP!)

Hmm, no, I haven't. I'll have to check it out. I've played very little that requires Legacy since it was never stable enough on my system to enjoy playing anything on it.

Do you mean this one?
