Hmm. I always found Q2 inferior to Q1 in every way. Probably because I don't like how they chose to do a space and shit themed sequel to a lovecraftian hellish horror :?.

Exactly! Someone thinking like me! How is quake 2 even a sequel to quake 1? They are totally different. What is with going from the medieval pits of hell to a different futuristic planet? The enemies are completely different too. Doom 2 isn't completely different from Doom. They shouldn't have the same name because they use the same basic engine. Why not call Half-Life Quake 4 instead? If it wasn't for who created and published them half-life might be called quake! Who knows? (We are really off subject now huh?) Getting back to the topic: If you want 3D floors mod for any game made after quake. If it was that big of a deal, that is what i would be doing instead of a zdoom mod. I hate 3d editing though. Every time I tried modding levels for quake/half-life/doom 3 I got disgusted so fast that i never did it again.

I once tried editting for Unreal Tournament. I quit when I couldn't even figure out how to add objects, or even move the view. Meh.

Although if 3D floors were ever added to Zdoom, I'd hope they'd be made like the Legacy ones. That port may suck, but at least the way you map 3D floors is easy to use. I remember making some interesting structures with those 3D floors... But it was Legacy. So it never progressed to anything.

Is there another good method to do it? I don't know about Risen3D but so far all other ports that support 3D floors (EDGE, Vavoom) use the same method as Legacy albeit with a slightly different set of features.

Editing for UT was one of the most fascinating things I've ever edited for :) My first game to make maps for.

@Justin-because Quake is a game they stuffed everything that was made for Doom but couldn't fit to it. Look at Quake 4. Half of it's contents should've been in Doom3. Meh.

What? Not sure I follow you there. Quake doesn't have random sprite enemies or something. Quake came a couple years after Doom 2. Id worked on heretic and hexen since doom 2 came out. It's not like they were rushing to finish up Doom and Quake at the same time. I just checked out the Q4 trailer and it seems they are completely reinventing the enemies and everything again. That pi$ses me off.

Why does it piss you off then? It's not like they're forcing you to buy the game or anything.

I prefered Quake 2 to Quake 1. For me Q1 was disappointing - a showcase for the tech with very little substance as far as the game content went IMO and I mean weapons, levels, story, theme, enemies, the whole shooting match. Some of it was quite cool and some enemies were interesting, but overall it was a let-down IMO. Also (a cliche I know) but it was too brown. Quake 2 was at least a game. However, I agree that it wasn't a logical sequel to Q1 and should have been called something else.

The sound of Q1, and the music however, were a high spot and I thought it really did well in that aspect.

By that standard Doom isn't a real game either, is it? ;)

I didn't like Quake 2 because it didn't expand upon the original in any way (which is why it should have had a different title), and also because I didn't find any of the architecture particularly interesting. Most of it was just plain dull. Some of the stuff isn't well executed - for example, the hub-like system of levels. That could have been done better.

Also, Quake 2 seemed 'generic' to me. How many FPSs have you fighting space enemies on an alien planet?

Quake had a story? :D.

The reason why I burnt dedicated CD's for the quake music is because 1: Why have a full game on a CD when you can fill the space that would otherwise be occupied by a game with music? 2: There are a few CD players that won't play game CD's just because of the first data track 3: I don't revolve around a computer... I do, however, revolve around music :D.

When i go to frienbds houyses I'd rather not go on their computer. Its not why I'm there. I go to friends houses to socialise, chat and listen to music... amongst other things ;). I carry a massive 240 capacity CD wallet with me... its not full, but its got quite a lot of music in... including lots of game music :D. Its original intention was because I wanted to get into DJing... but its kind of served as my portable CD collection... its always nice having all my favorite CD's to hand at crucial moments :D.

Maybe its just because I'm obsessed with music :D. It used to be computers, but i'm afraid music took over :D. Plus, I fount a life outside computers :D.

As for id recycling old gamnes... looks like they ran out of ideas :D. Either that or they decided to do their old storis justice by doing them properly. It seem that older games were quite different and just games really... but now people are obsessed with combining film with games and creating playable films. I'm all up for the idea as it means emersive atmospheres and stories... but TBH, a lot of the stories aren't that great...
