I'll give skulltag a try, but since Zdaemon went closed source I won't support it until its open again.

Is skulltag even open?

Isn't there something like "source code MUST be released" in the Doom source license? IIRC there is...

Well, my knowledge of the GPL isn't that great, but I do believe that it does state that the full source code does indeed have to be available to anybody that requests it.

As for playing online, I just use straight-up ZDoom! It would be nice, though, if some of the ZDoom-based ports would update thier shit.

ZDoom is not GPL and neither are its derivates. It's too bad about the missing source release of Skulltag.

That can all be blamed on Raven's idiotic source license. Randy already said that he wouldn't mind relicensing the code if it was possible. And then Skulltag and ZDaemon would be forced to release their source unless they decided not to update anymore (which ZDaemon would most likely do without any hesitation considering that they are already more than 3 years behind.)

Risen3D has the same problem and frankly, that's the code I'd really get my hands on.

When DC was going to close, me (MatthewPe2), matrix and some others were going to make a DC 4. But, it never got done and matrix doesn't play doom anymore (at least I heard)

There was; infact, but Carn took it down because st.com has bandwidth issues.

I think.
