:sadno:

It seems bumping old threads is becoming a trend...

Well, now you know.

Why are you complaining?
He had a valid question IMO and didn´t act like a troll/moron or whatever (like some people in Offtopic)...
So, may I politely ask you to stfu?

Edit: happy guessing

Also, the ZDCMP #2(whenever that comes out) and the Island 2 use the monsters from the MRW.

In the case of KDIZD, it mostly "sort of" uses monsters from the resource wad.

How do you sort of use monsters from the MRW. You either do, or you don't.

I think it uses modified versions of the MRW monsters.

You can "sort of" use them in several ways:
- Modify the sprites and/or the DECORATE lump somewhat.
- Only use the sprites, and write completely new DECORATE (or DeHackEd) behaviour for them.
- Only use the DECORATE lump, with the original sprites replaced by completely new ones.
- Create both completely new sprites and DECORATE behaviour, but draw your inspiration directly from creatures in the resource wad.

Thats an opinion, to me you second point is ripping sprites, your third is using the code for your own sprites (why?), and the fourth is just what you said, inspiration. So to me only the first one negates my statement. However, to each his own.

We seem to have very different definitions of "sort of" ;).

Using monsters in new maps with DB

Post by optojay »

Thanks to all for their replies and defending me, I guess. I thought I may have caused this thread to go down the tubes.... But honestly, I am a newbie to Zdoom. There should be a whole section where newbies can help newbies so that we don't interfere with the experts. :D I know it all to well how annoying it is to have newbies ask the same questions over and over because they are too lazy to search the forum. It's been over 7 years since I fooled around editing maps. I have spent hours reading through this forum, the Wiki, the doombuilder forum and the DB documentation.

I can't seem to figure out how to use the new monsters in my own levels. I've come to realize I am supposed to use the decorate.lmp with XWE?

I don't understand why I can't just load in the monsters.wad like a texture file in doombuilder and add a THING using the editor numbers, like 3103 for a stoneIMP or 3108 for a SnakeImp? Do I have to make my own decorate.lmp and load that into DB?

I loaded up Dark Keep in DB which uses some of the new monsters and they all came up as ? (Unknown) on the map but did have the correct ID number like 3103 for the StoneImp.

Obviously, I am missing something very basic. But, again, I can't seem to find a previous thread describing these newbie issues. My apologies if there is. :chainsaw2: Haha, what a cool emoticon!
