Starquest - BETA - Released

Post by Wad'a'Holic »

Hi all,
I have decided to release a BETA/DEMO version of Starquest to the public since im beign a bit lazy at the moment. Ever since my computer deleted all the files but map01 (that my mate backed up) for Starquest, I have beign a bit slack.

Mod screenshots:

Anyhow, heres the Beta/Demo version of Starquest - The 7th Landing. Currently it doesnt feature any Coop or Deathmatch and the cutscenes are incomplete, but it is still completely playable (without any glitchs and stuff).

For those who dont know what Starquest is:

Starquest is a mod that ive been working on for the last year. It is a teambased, Call of Duty styled, tactical ZDoom (DoomII) mod. The storyline is simple, you are a marine who has been sent out into space along with all your other marine friends. You are about to attack the only demon planet remaining, hoping you can destroy the evil there and restore peace to the world. This demo only features the 1st level in the mod that im working on.

Hope to hear your feedback, comments and surgestions :D

Eh, it's ok... it broke right after the first monster.
  • the camera work weeds tweaking.
  • you need to put less marines in a room with monsters. they will do more damage to themselves than to the monsters...
  • Too much Radius_Quake()
  • There is an interpolation error (look in the console)
  • Needs better ambient sounds
  • Marines need to walk around or turn or something. they look so idle while you are running around
  • You need different colored marines
  • Not enough detailz0r
I'm so spoiled by KDiZD, no other wads are the same, I need a hell of a wad to be impressed now.

It's because he thinks that if you add tons of detail to a level and it looks great, its gameplay is certain to be exactly the opposite.

I don't agree with that. Just because a level looks really nice doesn't mean its gameplay will always suffer. There are already many who prefer Scythe 2 over the original, and which one was more detailed?

Oh, and ZCDMP#1 didn't exactly suck, now did it?

As long as people remember that detail and gameplay are only really loosely related, we're alright:

Gameplay can be helped by a good use of detail, like lighting effects and a bit of emphasis around things, it'll let the place be more interesting as well.

However, Gameplay can be hindered by too much detail, like in Gothic99.

You can get good gameplay with little to no detail, but you can get better gameplay if you have a really good mapper using detail as well.

If the levels crap and looks good, or crap and looks bad, which is worse?
Or if a levels good, but looks like shit, or if a levels and good and looks it too, which is better?
