Insomeria: Desert Storm - 30-Level Modern Warfare TC

Post by WojtTheDoomer2K »

Welcome! It is I - WojtTheDoomer, author of Mystery of Tyskie Islands and Reds Over World. First off, let me say that I am incredibly thankful for the positive response Reds Over World received, especially after I released the patch, even getting a Honorable Mention at the Cacowards. As a few people have noticed, I have left a sequel hook in Reds Over World with a few key lines in the game, and I believe it is time to reveal the sequel in question - the next stage in this alternative history saga...
Fixed points in time exist. Events, which, no matter how different the world is, can - and will happen. And when they do... they change the world, forever.

Ten years have passed since the Third World War ended in 1991, with the death of Premier Alexander. The world enjoyed a period of relative peace; the Soviet Union and PRC dissolved, a new superpower called the European Union emerged from the ashes of the Third World War, and NATO stood on the vanguard of protecting the world peace. All until one faithful day...

On the eleventh of september, 2001, the World Trade Center has fallen, struck by two airplanes; many perished in this attack, which shook the entire globe. Governments were shocked, people looked on in awe and terror. Soon enough, the terrorist organization known as Al-Qaeda admitted to the attack, led by their charismatic leader, Osama Bin Laden, a man who just years ago was praised in US newspapers as an Anti-Soviet warrior, who bravely fought the Reds in the Third World War...

The world knew they now must face a new, nebulous threat - the Terrorists. So opened a new chapter in the blood-stained book of conflict - War On Terror has began. The question is - who will prevail?

-The thrilling sequel to Reds Over World, bigger, better, more beautiful, and more detailed!
-30 long levels of War On Terror mayhem - some even split in two to combine MASSIVE mapping with better performance!
-A plethora of 10+ weapons, from throwing knives and handguns, through assault rifles, to repeating rocket launchers, Prism Cannons and the powerful Death Ray!
-Realistic levels and atmosphere - alternative history War on Terror-era world comes to life in DOOM! It's realistic mapping in DOOM like you've never before!
-Fight for freedom all over the world - not only the Middle East! Your adventures will take you to Europe, Australia, the Carribean, Eastern Slavic countries, Africa and even... the continent of Antarctica!
-Levels so alive you'll swear they have a pulse - buy things you need from vending machines, drink from water fountains, talk with people animated to express emotions and even gesticulate, break things, use cranes to drop down crates revealing hidden passages, watch TV and more!
-New beautiful enemy and weapon sprites, now your enemies look and feel even more real and alive - they're doing things when idle, have different personalities, and they are wildly varied - from terrorists through armored mega-corporation security guards and mutants to mecha suit-bound criminals and the ultimate weapon of the 21st century - Drones!
-Punish the world's most infamous terrorists for their crimes! Think you have what it takes to take down Bin Laden, Al Zawahiri, or Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi?
-For the first time in Insomeria history, a much-requested feature that was going to appear in ROW but I wasn't able to program back then - allied infantry that'll help you in your battles!

But now since Reds Over World has a sequel that isn't called Reds Over World 2, what will be the naming convention? Well...

From now on, im christening the series as... Insomeria! I came up with this cool "psychological" sounding idea for a FPS name when I was 12, and always wanted to use it, even making a hoax "lost horror game" in 2017 under that name. First I was going to use it in 2017 for a cancelled wad series that MOTI was originally going to be the first part of (some of you might remember the ancient 2017 MOTI version bearing the subtitle "Insomeria Chapter 1").

Thus, from now on, you might refer to Reds and Desert collectively as "Insomeria", and call them Insomeria: Reds Over World and Insomeria: Desert Storm!
Mohammad Ahmed Mustafa was born in 1974, in Baghdad, Iraq. He had to flee his homeland with his parents while he was a teenager, because of the many turmoils of the Third World War. Mohammad's parents chose America as their safe haven, and raised him to be a good man. After the Third World War ended, Mohammad desired to join the US military, to protect people and ensure no one will suffer the same fate as him.

He was an expert soldier, so good in fact, that in 1995 he joined the Delta Force unit of the US Army. When 9/11 happened, he knew that his time has come; he had to protect the innocent people in the world from the new threat lingering to crush freedom and peace.

His intelligence officer is a man from Forks, Washington, Robert Pattinson - him and Mustafa go far back to the UNOSOM II days, and are best friends - he will meet many more allies on his way, however, such as the ever-present NATO snitch Doctor Mussahad, and the shady arms dealer Boris Priboi.
With Reds Over World being a alternate history of the Cold War, for a sequel I realized that the next logical step would be a alternate history of the War On Terror. After the Red Scare of the 1950s-1990s, there was the Terror Scare of the 2000s and 2010s, hence, the sequel is a War On Terror mod. I am aware that some people might consider a War On Terror mod to be controversial, because the War On Terror is a conflict far less removed from "our times" than the Cold War, and it is a conflict still a many people remember living through themselves and have very mixed opinions on. However, War On Terror-inspired games have ben produced since the conflict began - Command & Conquer: Generals, Fugitive Hunter, Hunt for Bin Laden, Six Days In Fallujah, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, etc. - this mod is not so different from them.

Just like Reds Over World, the mod isn't meant to be any political statement by the author; it's just terrorist shooting fun, and no one should have anything against a game involving shooting at Al Qaeda and ISIS members before they harm anymore innocent people. The mod will even feature several real-life terrorists, such as Osama Bin Laden, to give the player himself an opportunity to bring many terrorists which caused the world harm to justice.
If you still have any worries, here are some particular pinpoints:

-The mod WILL NOT feature the option to play as an islamic terrorist. This one is all hero campaigns - no villain campaigns like in the first part.
-The mod WILL NOT portray the religion of Islam itself in a negative way. I have ben an advocate against islamophobia in Poland ever since my teenage years. The playable character and hero of this story is a Muslim American, and the player will encounter many positive Muslim characters that will aid him in fighting terrorism.
-The mod WILL NOT feature playable versions of events such 9/11, Boston Bombings, Charlie Hebdo, etc. - that would not only be tasteless but also immoral. The mere idea of someone even making them into playable levels honestly sickens my gut.
-The mod WILL NOT feature the controversial US invasion of Iraq, as it did not happen in this alternative history timeline, or the equally controversial Israel-Palestine conflicts.
-The mod WILL NOT feature the option to kill unarmed civilians and/or other innocent people.
-The mod WILL NOT push any BS 9/11 "truther" conspiracies.

I fully realize that with this mod I am stepping on hot coals, and im risking a Sonderkommando Revolt-like event to happen, but I believe in the right and freedom of an artist to express his vision, as long as it is nothing illegal or immoral. I desire to express the vision of my alternative history to be as authentic as possible. I believe that what I am doing with this mod is not unlike HOI4 mods using real historical figures and controversial organizations as characters (f.e. The New Order or Fire Rising). Please be respectful towards my artistic vision - this is not meant to be a controversy-starting mod, or any sort of "edgy" political mod and I am not looking for any trouble.
Hope to hear what you think so far. Can't wait to finish it as well!

WojtTheDoomer.

Oh hey, welcome back! Cool to see you tackle another massively ambitious project, with 30 levels no less. I was honestly thinking Reds Over World was going to be the last leg of the journey, but I'm glad to have been proven wrong! Looking forward to more.

Just as much ROW was a 90s period piece, this will be quite a 2000s-2010s period piece, something I delight in making as a guy born in the year 2000; many a blog with 2000s photos really helped me with designing levels for this one. This is why I decided to make the intelligence officer an expy of Robert Pattinson.

Might honestly go the way some person suggested I should do in ROW 2.0 and make a mugshot of him instead of just the "RADIO" text - this will be in handy to differenciate the various Far Cry Doyle-type characters at first glance easily, as in some missions you'll be working with Doctor Mussahad, on some with a new civilian NATO helper named Boris Priboi, and in some with an European sergeant called Jäger.

In case anyone wants to see the pure 100% raw gameplay of Desert Storm, without any of the trailer's fast cuts and music - here's a little one-and-a-half minute snippet of pure gameplay from E3M5 Two Suns In the Sunset where you and Doctor Mussahad go off to the Republic of Maldives, where the Terrorists are running a secret base where they keep all their important intel on stolen European Union data their hackers harvested via multiple leaks and cyberattacks.

What do you think?

Looks Awesome, Super Challenging and should be Fun, just like Reds Over World and The Mystery of Tyskie Islands. Still have that major slowdown/stoppage where you have to fight the big-a** computer, seriously, my frame rate falls to 1-2 frames per 40 seconds on this section of the game…. I know I’m not running the absolutely latest version of GZDoom/UZdoom and I’m not running Vulkan Graphics ( OpenGL is fine for me) , but still wondering why this seems to be the only part of Reds Over World that fes that.. any help/insights would be greatly appreciated by me.

Further development of the Maldives map continues - the mod will feature a more traditional pump-action shotgun instead of ROW's Jackhammer - but just as powerful.

And here you can see the map in Kosovo, where you'll use a very unconventional weapon to deal with the enemies; it's not visible on screen, because im keeping it as a suprise for the players...
