Check out the new Soviet Briefing theme for 2.0 I remixed from Freedom Fighters music - really wanted it to sound creepy and "corrupted", to really give the player the feeling that you're playing as the villain in the Soviet campaign, something the generic ambient that all three factions got didn't really convey.



The US Army and NATO briefing themes will be from ROWan.

I played through the first level and I've got to say I'm very impressed by the amount of detail and creativity in the level design. Nice work!

Yet another v.2.0 update - while extracting Far Cry 1 textures for DOOM usage, I found these four cool textures. These are meant to be WW2-era Japanese equipment, but honestly really look like old Soviet computers/machinery I saw on photos of Soviet and Eastern Bloc bases during the Cold War.

Should I add them to some Soviet maps, replacing some of the low-res out-of-place looking computers? Or is this too unnecessary of a change?

Sorry if im "bumping" this thread too much, but I found one interesting thing some people might enjoy - here are some original sprites from back when the mod begun, was more Wolf 3D-esque in terms of aesthetics and, and still had that early "three factions" plot. Hard to believe some of those sprites are almost three years old!

There's plenty of cut content here, andd some of them got cut for interesting reasons; if anyone's curious just ask. And maybe I should bring some of those concepts back in the 2.0 patch? What do you think?

Have you thought about expanding the weapons roster at all? Or making a mod version that does so?

Not really. I feel like what I put in the mod is enough. Originally the mod was going to have more weapons, including a AA-12, TP-82, some sort of flamethrower, etc. but I felt like that's redundant; people already complained about the three assault rifles being basically the same.

In the mod we have weapons that each fill some sort of niche/role

-Knife for melee (Will be buffed in 2.0)
-Pistol as a starter weapon, good for killing singular soldiers or groups of two of them, but that's pretty much it
-Skorpion as basically a better pistol, because it's a machine one
-MP5SD for silent killing without alerting monsters
-Uzi as a last resort weapon to be used when there is no more "clip" ammo, as it uses special ammo
-AK-74, M-16 and P90 are all assault rifles (They're gonna get upgraded in 2.0; they fire much faster and also differ, with M16 dealing the most damage, P90 being the one with the largest clip, and AK-74 being the one in-between)
-Pancor Jackhammer is meant to be the most powerful close quarters weapon
-Coachgun is meant as basically the usual Doom-style Super Shotgun
-SVD is meant to be the sniper rifle, obviously
-Milkor MGL is the rapid-fire blast damage weapon with the downside of bouncing projectiles
-RPG-7 is a straightforward rocket launcher
-Desolator Cannon is the BFG (Will be buffed in 2.0 to incldue a alt-fire mode that blows a gigantic radioactive spiral)
-Laser Rifle is the semi-Plasma Rifle (Will be buffed in 2.0 to be more accurate)

People already suggested that all of the assault rifles, MP5SD, Skorpion and Pistol should have different ammo types, i should consider adding this.

Alright - enough waiting is enough, you people deserve results. I was constantly waiting to continue the development of 2.0 version for Tormentor667 to continue his bug-reporting playthrough, but it just stopped. I absolutely understand he's a busy man, he's got his life, family, work, etc. and im not angry with that, im okay with it. But here's what im gonna do instead.

Im not gonna beat around the bush - I am looking for beta-testers of the 2.0 version. Two-three people to get reports from to get different opinions and recieve feedback from various playing styles. Please hit me up on private messages here, and I'll send you a W.I.P build of the 2.0 version I am currently working on. The two-three beta-testers would then play through it, and after playing through the game, each beta-tester would make a big report like Torm did, where he'd report bugs, irritating things, issues, etc. he encountered throughout to fix; then i'd fix them all, and I think 2.0 will be good to go.

All beta-testers will be credited in the game's credits.

Sorry to bump once again, but... Reds Over World has a Wiki! I posted it before, but a separate post will propably garner more attention.

The Wiki currently contains how-to-beat wakthroughs for all of the maps, information about bosses and enemies, locations of all secrets in the maps, and some lore. If you are interested in Wiki editing, or noticed something isn't added to the articles, feel free to add to them. It would be fun to have more editors!

One more useful usage for this Wiki will be bug-fixing; you can easily write a "Bugs" section in an article about a map, making it so much easier for people to report bugs and issues that'll have to be fixed in 2.0.
