Three Screen Mode in GZDoom?

Post by MetalSnake »

Hi there. Does gzdoom support three screen mode?
The old original doom supported three screen mode through three PCs networking, nowadays we have enough power to do that on one machine.
Is that possible with gzdoom? Would be quite awesome to play Doom with three 16:9 screens (or even wider if you are crazy enough ;)).

All I could find online is that ZDoom 2.5 added multi monitor support. But I couldn't find any more info about that. I'm not even sure if that just refers to be able to run it on one particular monitor or really run it on more than one monitor.

I'm running a MacStudio with m1 Max and I'm not afraid of the commandline if that's relevant.

No, I don't think it does three monitors, but the info i found while searching up, the info looks like it might be only to just two monitors, the engine would still be considered mutil monitor compat, As the engine (might) still use two monitors and that's max, Also why the hell do you want to play doom in three screens? It would not even line up due the monitor bevels we have (both modern and old monitor bevels)

Fun fact, when Doom was new, it had the parameters -left and -right and you could use them to start a game with a central monitor and two side monitors to give a more wrap-around immersive experience. I never got to see it myself. So, I can't comment how good it was, but it was a thing.

Shamelessly stolen from PageofDoom on Doomworld:

Code: Select all

If you have a network, try setting up a network game with three players.
The three terminals should have the parameters:
            "doom -devparm -nodes 3 -left"
            "doom -devparm -nodes 3"
            "doom -devparm -nodes 3 -right"
Then, set up the left and right terminal monitors next to the middle
monitor, in a virtual-reality type configuration. When you turn your
head, you see the screen turned 90 degrees! This ONLY works with
versions 1.0, 1.1, 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6 of DOOM
