NEED HELP / ADVICE FOR ENDGAME
When deciding to side with
Spoiler:
The Baron, or Garavito, or Kyle,
is there a way to help more than one group? Ideally all of them?
Each has somewhat noble intentions, but also problems. It'd be nice to
Spoiler:
increase water rations and free them from slavery (Kyle's cause), enact stronger leadership and governance (Garavito), and plant the modified crops. (Baron)
I don't want to
Spoiler:
destroy Kyle, or destroy the Roamers' ammo and fuel supply, or destroy Uptown.
Cant' find a walkthrough for Ashes yet. Can someone offer a minimal-spoiler advisory on this?
Kyle's branch
Spoiler:
is entirely optional, and nothing will happen if you ignore it completely. You don't have to do his bidding or report him to the sheriff.
Out of the other two
Spoiler:
it looks like you need to choose one or another. In order to progress you need to accept one of the two quests, and doing so will remove your dialog options with the other party.

Well AboveLightingCube,
why don't you use the save game and try out what will happen if you choose your options.
For me as I get on that point i liked that you can take things in your hands an decide what to do. This is a very cool feature.

Totally agree, it's awsesome. I'm just lazy, impatient, and strapped for time, so I generally like to read how decisions can play out first and then choose a preferred path. Just my way of doing it.

Well AboveLightningCube,
I think impatience is not helpful for getting further in Ashes Afterglow @S0ulman correct me if I'm wrong
I also think that this mod is not made to just ran over to end just do a bit get rid of enemys.
The creators did a very good job doing this and also to create such large mod needs much patience.
Give it a try AboveLightingCube, cause you might be missing some details. (an there are lot's of them)

It just changes the epilouge

How do I get the best ending? From having tried Kyle's way, Garavito's way, and Baron's way, I found the Baron's way most agreeable. However, I didn't rat out Kyle because I understood his situation.
Is this the way to the best ending or should I have told the sheriff?

I can explain more -
Spoiler:
Snitching on Kyle was added as a way to unlock more dialogue with the Sheriff if you had already upset him previously. It was a way to allow players to go back to the "best" ending if they had made a bad impression before, and found his and Garavito's options distasteful. We did want to make Kyle's path a bit more interesting with regards to resolution and possible reconciliation, but it was quite a complicated questline already and I had run out of time.
Out of the four endings (Help Baron/Help Kyle/Help Garavito/wipe out the Roamers and get told to leave by the Baron), helping the Baron is arguably the "best" ending as it allows the town to thrive. Any other ending results in massive loss of life, which is a bad thing, and you'll find out why soon enough.
Whether or not this is the best ending for you is up for debate. You could argue that Garavito's reward is slightly better, but I didn't want to suggest an obvious best ending. None are considered canon, incidently. And this will become apparent later. So don't feel there is a path you *have* to choose, everyone.
Also, I appreciate that I haven't been very active here recently. Many apologies. Will be giving an update on what I'm working on later this month.

Your game is a masterpiece. I've had so much fun with it. Thank you for this reply, makes sense. And please, keep up the great work.

I seem to have ran into an issue with the final boss. I can't seem to avoid the instakill attack it does after being defeated and doing the short monologue. I can't kill it while it's lying on the floor (as my attacks just go straight through it) and I can't dodge the attack by hiding behind a pillar. Using Titan stim prevents death, but the forcefields remain and the screen is permanently red.
I'm using Afterglow v1.10, and here's the save https://files.catbox.moe/imwy8f.zds
Think i mentioned this on my feedback; where final boss is still able to insta-kill you even if you shoot her before that. Pretty sure that doesn't happen anymore if i recall my previous playthrough, Version 1.10 played on GZDoom g4.9.0.
Speaking of the version, i can't load your save file even though i put it right into Save folder. Maybe the version of GZDoom is mismatching?

I'm playing on Linux, version should be the 4.9.0a I got from the .deb package.
After a couple more attempts I managed to kill the boss, I just needed to land the final shot before it falls to the ground with a Junker Driver instead of the Service Rifle's altfire. I think it may have something to do with gibbing, as the problems happened when the last attack during the fight was an explosion, and the Junker Driver kill (which allowed me to finish the boss off) had an audible gibbing sound when it fell to the ground.

Perhaps this helps.
It did help me learn what kind of GZDoom version zeem uses but alas, they use Linux version apparently so loading this file on my Windows PC is out of the question. Unless there's a way to convert it.
However, they replied;

Funny because i looked back at my older playthroughs and i did finish her off with my fully charged Junker Driver with max upgrade. Gibbing sound(and also gibs spawned, if i recall?) played and the screen turned red after that. Did it again, but this time with Service Rifle's primary fire. The glitch did not happen.
Seeing that we both witnessed the exact same problems, it might be because of her somewhat linked to a gibbing state where it never nullifies the insta-kill script upon death. Thanks for the further explanation!
Hi there scavers,
fourth time playing and I recently found Larry.
Makes so much fun playing even if you discover new things while you thougt you have them all.

Spoilers about 'Smiley' - maybe a bug?
I freed Smiley but made him wait a bit- if I chat to him he will say 'to get his stash from the lake up north'. My journey says "Free Smiley or not 'Talk to guard'" ... but I have already freed him and the guards don't do anything.
Spoiler:
The 'S' Rock won't budge - if I clip into the area it will say 'Journal' updated' but won't actually update. I'm guessing I have broken the smiley quest bits somehow.
I have the same problem right now. Could you explain to me how you did what you did to resolve it?
