I think it's really cool how they just took what was on hand and digitized everything, and with a little bit of ingenuity and a fraction of expense they made an iconic weapon set and a franchise they would put them on the map.
I guess my question is what if they had access to a time machine to get guns and toys from the future to digitize?
If anyone wants to take a whack at it, feel free it might be give me some ideas for a mod idea I have.

A lot of bright colors and visible orange tips. The palette wouldn't be well-equipped for it.
It's Nerf or Nothing (tm)

Ngl, some gun toys design are pretty cool and I could totally see them as Doom bases (with proper edits, ofc):
Spoiler: Just to maintain a clean look in the thread

These newer designs are the product of the cultural influence of an entire generation of FPSes made since Doom... I wonder how much different using these as a base really would be from having modern designers come up with stuff.
Then again, one nice thing about using Nerfs as a base is that you're necessarily constrained to a design that is actually capable of being pointed by a human hand and launching a real physical projectile, so you don't end up with some of the jarring nonsense you sometimes see in FPS weapon models.

Agree. Not in Nerfs designs because that's mall ninja territory instead.Matt wrote:so you don't end up with some of the jarring nonsense

Some of these repaints are AMAZING! I mean, this stuff looks like it belongs in the next doom game!
I'm definitely not going to go get $100 worth of nerf guns just for making a doom mod , but man... some of the toys they have now are awesome.
And yeah, as Matt said, it's sort of a polluted pool now with all the media influence as to what would constitute "original".
Frankly, idk if ID could get away with what they did back then now, taking toys and scanning them into the game. Granted, they were pretty heavily edited, but at what point is something going to set off alarm bells?
It's interesting to think about though. And Nerf in particular has so many weapon designs it's really a goldmine for a determined sprite artist to borrow an idea and make it come to life.
