[BDX] Brutal DOOM X — v0.8

Post by Moktar »

Brutal DOOM X (BDX) is a fork based on the old BDSE (Sperglord Edition by SidDoyle) with some fixes and upgrades. The aim with BDX was to make a toned down edition of the standard BD, preserving the visual effects but dropping unnecessary features and set the gameplay the closest posible to vanilla DOOM within the bad-ass BD parameters: this means, no grenades (or maybe grenades could still be included), no dual-wielding guns and nothing about one-hundred barrel shotguns.

However, my DECORATE skills are fairly limited, and until this moment, I was not planning to release this on it's own post. So, please, excuse me if I forgot to credit you, or if I used your graphics or code in this mod. I will be adding the respective credits as long as I find them, because this fork of BDSE has been sporadically modified since 2014 (and BTW, because of this, BDX is kinda a Frankenstein mod, with bunch of code from BDSE, BDv19, BDv20 and BDv21).

Spoiler:
This is not a FINAL version, while it is perfectly playable, it still has lots of bugs. If you want to contribute this mod, please, report bugs and if you have some fix, please, feel free to post it and any feature you want. You are free to modify BDX.

To-Do List:
— Green blood for Hell Knights and Barons.
— Get the red blood properly implemented and fix Janitor not working.
— Brown gloves for all weapons.
— Fix chaingunner firing sounds not stopping after killing them.
— Implement punch instead of kicking.
— Get rid completely of the Offend and Taunt commands.

Spoiler:
As SidDoyle said before: I claim absolutely nothing. I'm merely the one responsible for putting this edition together and nothing more.

Looks cool. But how will this be different from something like say BDLite?

I like it. Even as someone who enjoys the additions that have been added to BD over the years, it's kinda nice to have more no-fuss and simpler experience every once in a while.

You've got some bugs to squash, but this is solid. Feels good.

Two off the top of my head - haven't played since last night:
1. Ammo counters on the statusbar hud don't work properly. Looking at SBARINFO, the counters don't use the right ammo type.
2. Hitting reload when the rifle is full still takes one ammo from reserve. Reload sequence jumps 46 lines when the rifle is full, should jump 45.
