What do you use to edit or make sprites?
For me I use paint.net. Also I am aware of Gimp too but I find paint.net to be easier to use.

Kolourpaint.
No layers, so there's a lot of copypasting into extra whitespace.

Paint Shop Pro ver 7.04 - the last version before Jasc was bought over and PSP became a bloated mess. It is getting a little long in the tooth now, so it lacks some features that you might expect in modern software, but I still find it an excellent, well-featured, quick and easy tool to use for the kind of graphics editing needed for Doom.

I miss my copy of PSP, which I lost during my last hardware upgrade.Enjay wrote:Paint Shop Pro ver 7.04 - the last version before Jasc was bought over and PSP became a bloated mess. Now it's primarily GIMP. I occasionally try other programs, but my workflow has matured so much that the sprite-centric features other solutions offer don't really give me that needed bump in productivity. Plus with the right settings, GIMP is actually very good for spritework. I'd wager I could make it even better with plugins, but I've never taken the time to look for things like onionskinning.

I'm not a major sprite maker, but when I did minor edits for any of my maps, I just use Photoshop. Zoom in enough and it's pixel by pixel with a grid. lol

Blender + Photoshop. Krita is an alright free PS alternative. Better than GIMP by a mile imo.

Aseprite is extremely worth the money. Krita is also very useful if you need Photoshop like functionality but can't wrap your head around GIMP.
