Sound 99 (DSMANATK) when set as the Alert/Attack/Active sound in DeHacked, plays the imp fireball sound effect instead.
However it works as expected in PrBoom+
What's going on here?

A good question - and the answer seems to be all century and then some! Tested with ZDoom 1.22 and it also does this.drfrag wrote:But since when?

Apparently this never got noticed because few mods reused this sound. In the long list of Dehacked patches I checked I couldn't find a single one using it.
