DeHacked - sound 99 plays fireball sound instead

DeHacked - sound 99 plays fireball sound instead

Sound 99 (DSMANATK) when set as the Alert/Attack/Active sound in DeHacked, plays the imp fireball sound effect instead.
However it works as expected in PrBoom+

What's going on here?

See attached wad for example. For UltimateDoom, E1M1.

A good question - and the answer seems to be all century and then some! Tested with ZDoom 1.22 and it also does this.

Apparently this never got noticed because few mods reused this sound. In the long list of Dehacked patches I checked I couldn't find a single one using it.
