Gears of Hell

Post by Imp Hunter »

"Gears of Hell" is a collaborative tribute mod to "Aeons of Death," featuring over 20 weapons and introducing more than 50 unique monsters. Developed by me in partnership with Lolo_is_Cool/Thiny93, the primary aim of "Gears of Hell" is to be a randomizer weapons/monsters mod in the style of the early 2010s, compatible with Doom 2 IWAD (not tested with Ultimate Doom yet). My objective with the mod is to ensure that every weapon and monster feels distinct, serving a different purpose in gameplay. I acknowledge its convoluted nature and reliance on resource rips, but I've made efforts to streamline and enhance the mod's cohesiveness. "Gears of Hell" holds a special place in my journey, serving as a gateway to modding and coding, which now contributes to my academic career in Python and Matlab.

Features:
  • Weapon and Enemy diversity: My objective is that every weapon and monster feels very different and serves a different purpose in gameplay.
  • Weapon Limit System: The player can only carry a certain number of weapons (7 is the default), forcing the player to upgrade its arsenal while being mindful of its choices. It can be disabled in the mod menu.
  • Pistol Start: Adjust difficulty settings and enable/disable the "pistol start" feature via the in-game menu.
  • Ongoing updates: "Gears of Hell" continues to receive refinements to enhance balance and address existing bugs or issues.
Notice:
As this mod was developed during my earlier years, there may be instances where resources are improperly credited or used without explicit permission. I acknowledge that oversight and I am committed to promptly addressing any concerns raised by content creators. If you identify any content that requires correction or removal, please don't hesitate to contact me!

How to Play:
To experience "Gears of Hell," load the provided WAD files - "Gears of Hell.wad and "Gears of Data.pk3" - together using a compatible launcher such as ZDL.

I didn't know there was a mod inspired by AEoD. :o
I loaded the mod in GzDoom 4.4.2, went through the first 2 map of Doom 2 and It's well made for an almost 12 years old mod. :)

Thank you! It's kinda of a mess IMO, but it's playable at least. Please send me any feedback about bugs, suggestions, etc if you can!

That video was pretty much one of my motivators to get back to Gears of Hell (and Decorate in general). I am very thankful for your review!

Gears of Hell, version 1.2

From this version onwards, there is a weapon limit system in this mod! The player has a limit of 6 weapons, excluding your fists and grenades (this limit can be increased or decreased on Gears of Hell Options menu) and they might drop weapons to get more weapons as their inventory gets full. To drop weapons, you must keybind a new "drop weapon" key exclusive to this mod. (Options > Gears of Hell Options > Gears of Hell Controls)

Besides that, there are lots of changes like new weapons, monsters, bugfixes, etc.

The download link is in the first post!

Ah, don't fret it. I really didn't do much of anything. But I'm glad it worked out. It'll be more fun to check it out when you're finished.

hey i have a question if this is so much like aeons of death and yes i know i played this a couple mins ago and here is a thing i think you should add "toggle weapon limts" like in aeod i don't feel comfortable when i don't have a full arsenal of weapons but its up to you to decide if you think its a good idea thanks in advance.

PS: i thought this was a old mod i guess not i would rate this mod 10/10 for it being a randomizer of my type!.
