Man, I love the atmosphere in these shots. And really happy that Breadbagfly has got something to channel into. I loved the concept art and weapons sprites I've seen.

Will the gameplay controls feel as bouncy and "free" as Blood's? The two look very similar through aesthetic grisliness, why not bridge the two together?

Lore is up in the air at the moment. I've written up some stuff but there's been a split between devs as to whether it would enhance or diminish the experience. I keep pushing for a more narrative slant but if I'm outvoted then it'll stay as just pure gameplay without much context outside of what players interpet from what they encounter. The demo is going to be rather lore-free but future incarnations of the project will hopefully provide more information about the setting and story.

The movement in Deluge is a bit different from your usual oldschool shooter fare. In some ways its more restrictive since there's fall damage and a slight reduction in speed but the climbing allows you to get to vantage points relatively quickly. That coupled with the AI and increased bullet damage leads to a more tactical way of playing.

There won't be much in the way of updates until the next showcase video so here's some prototype areas that will appear in later iterations of the mod.

Tutorial/Gameplay mechanic introduction areas added

Post by Chief Smokey »

Well I thought I wouldn't have much in the way of mapping work to do now outside of adding in new actors when the time comes but after some discussion with the other devs I've added a new section to the first map that introduces the major gameplay mechanics to the player. Previously it was a case of learning stuff as you go but it was decided that the players need to be informed as soon as possible so they have plenty of time to experiment and master the skills. HUD messages will be added later.

I'd also like to say that we're still looking for someone knowledgeable with particle effects. Get in contact with me if you think you can contribute to that aspect.

The Return...again

Post by Chief Smokey »

After another hiatus work resumes on Deluge once again. A new weapon - the Flaregun - has arrived and another is on the way, several placeholder sprites have been replaced and the maps have received some more touchups.

Hey hey! I hardly can wait. Both detail and the design is freaking amazing. Also speaking of which, the overall style reminds me of breadbagfly's charmingly eldritch works.

... Wait, are you the same person? :O

Breadbagfly is indeed onboard the project, although since he has other work on the go I've been taking over more of his duties.

Props ahoy

Post by Chief Smokey »

In order to help bring the maps to life, a slew of props have been added. Most of them destructible.

More mapping stuff

Post by Chief Smokey »

Mapping is wrapping up again for the time being until the monster roster has been fully completed and ready for testing. Visuals don't need much more work at this point.
