MasterOfDeath

Post by Csonicgo »

I have some terrible news...

MasterOfDeath, AKA Patchy, longtime member of the ZDoom Community, passed away on the 28th of September in a fatal motorcycle accident. There are no plans for a funeral due to Covid19 but there is a Memorial being planned sometime in the spring in Austin, TX. Patchy always wanted to go to QuakeCon and wanted to go this year, so Maybe we can do something for him for QC2021, but.. I just wanted to pass this along now that I've had time to process this myself...

MoD was essential to the original ZDoom weapons modding community. If MoD's silly weapon mods weren't released, big hits like Russian Overkill wouldn't have been made in the first place.

I will be updating this post when I get info on anything else.

Rest in Peace, friend.

Can't say I knew MoD very well personally, but I definitely remember him being a positive presence back in the day. It's always awful to lose a member of the community :(

For anyone close to him that may be reading this, my sincerest condolences. My inbox is open if there's anything I can do.

I sadly never got to know him but it is always awful to lose one of our own.

My condolences to his family and friends. He made a lasting impact on the community.

He was a real forerunner, one of the folks who really showed people like me that there were no limits to what could be done. I had just been thinking about him the other day. I can't remember why, now. Maybe thoughts like that have ways of being conveyed, subconsciously, or on some other plane.

He'll be missed, and honestly, already has been. I send my best regards to those around him.

Fuck.

MoD was special to me. Of all the friends I've made online, he was one of the longest-running. Whether or not he knew, he shaped my teen years in which we bonded the closest. So many things that started more-or-less just between us have lived on as weird references and/or jokes between other close friends now, some of whom he even got to hang around. His ZDoom works are great, and I always look back on them fondly. I'm devastated. This year is pulling out every stop it can to make everyone miserable, cliche as that sounds now.

Rest in peace

So sad to hear of the loss of one of our own; when we see this happen, we remember that outside the Internet with our avatars and endless game lives, we are all (well, mostly all I guess) actual mortal people. RIP MoD :(

Ah. I remember MasterOfDeath well from around when I joined this community, and I remember him popping in IRC on occasion. He was always a great and funny guy, and even if we didn't really interact much it's really painful to realize he's just outright gone. Fuck.

Oh no! I never knew MoD personally, but his Zdoom work was impressive and foundational to so much of what we see today. RIP.

Oww poor man, what bad news... :sadno:

Although I haven't gotten to know him or talked to on any thread, but even knowing about the great things he has done and contributed to, it's a tremendous misfortune ending up that horrible way... :(

May God welcome him in his lap... Rest in peace.
