The project was originally named "Demolition", so you weren't wrong! But then "Raze" was found catchier, what with being a single-syllable word.

Oh FFS    Amazing find, Player701! The irony of a non-native Doomer finding the keys to the Raze kingdom is not lost on me.

Congrats to Graf, Rachael, EDuke teams in making this work possible.

EDIT: Demolition, eh? Well, there is certainly a reference there :P

Trivia: The original name was coined here - long before it became a thing:

I am writing a wiki article as we speak, using feature mentions from this thread, the Github and the TODO text.

Ideally, this should be its own category - Similar to how GZDoom is. But i rather leave you up to that first before making too extravagant changes.

Glad I was on the right path, even if it was perhaps in my subconscience.

Downloaded CMake and putting VC 2019 Community Edition on and trying to build, just waiting for the download on work's 4G SIM card

The build process is failing on an OpenAL error, despite NO_OPENAL ticked in CMake (was ticked by default).

Code: Select allExpand view
20>C:\Users\mrichters\Downloads\Raze-master\source\common\sound\backend\i_sound.cpp(264,33): error C2061: syntax error: identifier 'OpenALSoundRenderer'

Installing OpenAL does not resolve the issue for me either.

You don't need to install OpenAL to build with its support enabled. So uncheck NO_OPENAL and try again. If it will fail again, post the output.

For whatever reason, installing OpenAL and unticking the default ticked 'NO_OPENAL' resolved the issue. Now I just need to compile libvpx. A small build doco (or even a binary ) wouldn't go astray.

You don't need to compile libvpx. First of all, you can build without it. Also, headers and libraries for Windows are already in the repository. So, they will be used if you don't provide own paths to them.

I had build errors about missing libs for libvpx?

So what benefits does it have compared to other ports?

Cmake says it could not find LIBVPX, and the libraries folder in the source has no libvpx library, unlike bzip2, jpeg etc. Do I need to provide it, or just not?

Improved speed and stable support for more games (all from one exe too) spring immediately to mind.
