What did I miss?
Like the topic says.
It's been two kids and a whole lot of time since last I had a go at mapping/scripting (back when 3D floors were the bee's knees). What's new?

Re: What did I miss?
the DOOM: The Golden Souls 3 demo should give you a pretty good idea of how far we've come.

Slade3 is now at version 3.8
GZDoom Doombuilder is now at version r3104 (GZDoom Builder - Bugfix)
The most impressive work so far is Blade of Agony.
Both in regards to graphics and programming.

Well there's a name I haven't seen in a while.
Since last time I saw you, ZDoom got retired and everyone's switched over to GZDoom, GZDoom is GPL, has numerous graphical upgrades, ZScript is now available, has custom shaders available now, supports Vulkan, and also has portals.
Plus lots of other things, but I think that is some of the most notable things.

Woah, what's been up, jallamann! It seems 2019 is 'coming back' year.
Take a look at the cacowards for 2018 and 2019 over at doomworld, I suppose. They have some pretty reasonable highlights.

Re: What did I miss?
GZdoom has a new software renderer now that can do the palettes and the 32bpp's and the polygons and the dynamic lights. It also has a palettizer for the hardware renderer and it's got a zillion of FM-based midi output options now so you can get Doom to sound like an alternate timeline where DMX wasn't used and Bobby Prince made IMFs. Also Gzdoom can load Unreal models! Isn't that weird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
also models' normals are finally acknowledged by dynamic lighting, so Vavoom's not the only game in town for that anymore.
finally there's been an actual released doom alpha mod called Doom Delta, so the ol' doom bible curse is broken.
There's also a mod that 'smooshes' all the official Doom releases together as one 'iwad' so you don't have to pick a doom to play a doom anymore.
Doom64's been remade again but with no ripping and more Doom2 styled. Also Doom64 has a good reverse engineered source port called Doom64Ex and Doom64's also recently getting a commercial rerelease too.
