Toslink/Spfif question for people here who author music

Is there anything about those powered optical to digital coax adapters that would preclude using one for music production/general listening? Those optical connections are a real hassle, I've had one break on both my tv and av receiver (The old ones that required dust covers never broke)

I notice creative don't have coax on their more recent stuff, and some ancient p4 motherboards I have, have coax solely.
