Contrary to popular belief, we are not all-knowing-all-seeing magical beings!

If you want help you're going to have to provide lots of info. Like what is your hardware, what is your operating system, what version of GZDoom/LZDoom/whatever you're using, what mods you're loading, how you're loading it, what you've already tried for fixing the problem, and anything else that is even remotely relevant to the problem.

We can't magically figure out what it is if you're going to be vague, and if we feel like you're just wasting our time with guessing games we will act like that's what you're really doing and won't help you.

[Debian 10] Blackscreen

Post by Guest »

Hello,

Launching GZDoom gives me a blackscreen.
If I edit the vid_defheight and vid_defwidth in gzdoom.ini GZDoom launches normally.
However, after closing and relaunching it GZDoom will go back to returning just a blackscreen.

These are my specs:

OS: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) x86_64
Kernel: 4.19.0-5-amd64
Resolution: 1920x1080
CPU: Intel i3-3250 (4) @ 3.500GHz
GPU: Intel HD Graphics
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
Memory: 7865MiB

Thank you for the help.

Not that I know what to look for, but:

What do those variables turn into when you close and relaunch, and what are you setting them to manually?

And can you post the ini before and after?

It turns out the values I put in are more or less irrelevant.
What happens is that I have to close and open gzdoom multiple times until I get any actual image, it doesn't work consistently.

What could be a possible cause/fix for such an issue?

Thank you.

I never checked the current GZDoom codebase with Nouveau running on such old GPU. Performance wasn’t great even on the current graphics hardware though.
Did you try NVIDIA proprietary drivers? 340.107 seems to be the last one that supports your hardware.

Considering the bad press I can read nearly everywhere when it comes to nouveau drivers, consider these entirely unsupported.
